Königsforst
''Königsforst'' is the third album by Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project. It was released in December 1998 on the Mille Plateaux label. The album is named after Königsforst recreation park, near Voigt's hometown of Köln, in which his youthful experiments with LSD provided inspiration for the entire Gas project. The CD and vinyl pressings feature notable differences. The first songs on the vinyl's A and D sides were exclusive to this pressing until the 2016 release of Gas' second box set, ''Box'', where they were added to the end of the CD version of ''Königsforst''. The CD features a re-arranged track listing, with tracks B2 and D2 gaining noticeable extensions; B2 gains nearly eight minutes of runtime. The first track on CD was also released as "Oktember A" on the ''Oktember'' EP; because of this, "Oktember A" was replaced with "Tal '90" – a piece Voigt wrote under the alias of Tal – when ''Oktember'' was included in ''Box'' alongside ''Königsforst''. Gas (musician)
Gas (stylized as GAS or G A S) is the main musical project of German electronic music, electronic musician and composer Wolfgang Voigt (born 1961). The project was created as an expressive medium inspired by his experiences with taking LSD in the :de:Königsforst, Königsforst, a German forest situated near his hometown of Cologne, for long periods in his youth. He has claimed that the intention of the project is to "bring the forest to the disco, or vice-versa". Ambient techno is a subgenre of techno that incorporates the atmospheric textures of ambient music with the rhythmic elements and production of techno. It was pioneered by 1990s electronic artists such as Aphex Twin, Carl Craig, The Orb, The Future Sound of London, the Black Dog, Pete Namlook and Biosphere. Mille Plateaux is a German record label founded in 1994 by Achim Szepanski in Frankfurt, as a sublabel of Force Inc. Music Works. Its releases in the fields of minimal techno, glitch music and other experimental electronic music have a lasting influence. Wolfgang Voigt
Wolfgang Voigt (born 1961) is a German electronic music DJ and producer from Cologne, known for his output under various aliases, such as Gas. He signed on numerous record labels, including Warp, Harvest, Raster-Noton, Force Inc, Astral Industries and Kompakt. The latter was co-founded by Voigt alongside Michael Mayer and Jürgen Paape. He is considered one of the most influential minimal techno artists. ''Zauberberg'' (English: ''Magic Mountain'') is the second album by Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project. It was first released on vinyl in December 1997 on the Mille Plateaux label, with a CD release following in February 1998. The album is named in reference to the Thomas Mann novel ''The Magic Mountain'' (''Der Zauberberg''). It is the first Gas album to incorporate the forest imagery that would become a trademark of the project. Reviews generally cite ''Zauberberg'' as the darkest, most dissonant Gas release.
