Kirklandet
Kirklandet or Gomalandet is an island in Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island is split in two by the ''Vågen'' inlet, with the western half called ''Kirklandet'' and the eastern half called ''Gomalandet''. The name of the island means "church land", since it has been the historic site of a church. Today, Kirkelandet Church is located on the western part of the island. This is the main island of the city of Kristiansund (town), Kristiansund, with the island of Innlandet (island), Innlandet to the southwest, the island of Nordlandet to the southeast, and the island of Skorpa, Kristiansund, Skorpa to the east. The main highway on the island is Norwegian National Road 70. The Sørsund Bridge, Kristiansund, Sørsund Bridge connects the island to Innlandet and the Nordsund Bridge, Kristiansund, Nordsund Bridge connects it to the island of Nordlandet. Kristiansund (, ; historically spelled Christianssund and earlier named Fosna) is a List of towns and cities in Norway, town in Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. Kirkelandet Church
Kirkelandet Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the island of Kirkelandet in the town of Kristiansund. It is the church for the Kristiansund parish which is part of the Ytre Nordmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, concrete church was built in a modern, rectangular style in 1964 by the architect Odd Østbye. The church seats about 550 people. The church is also the seat of the Ytre Nordmøre prosti (deanery), and Gerd Anne Aarset is the Dean who is seated here. Tormod Sikkeland is the pastor of the congregation. Design The church is reckoned as one of the most daring "modern" church buildings in Norway. The architect Odd Østbye created a building which breaks with all traditional church architecture. Averøya
Averøya is an island in Averøy Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located north of the Romsdal peninsula surrounded by the Kornstadfjorden on the west and the Kvernesfjorden on the south and east, and the Bremsnesfjorden on the northeast. The main villages on the island include Bruhagen, Kvernes, Kornstad, Kårvåg, Langøyneset, and Bremsnes. The island has a population (2023) of 5,872. Atlantic Ocean Tunnel
The Atlantic Ocean Tunnel () is an undersea tunnel that is part of Norwegian County Road 64 which connects Kristiansund Municipality to Averøy Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The eastern end of the tunnel is on Kirkelandet island in the town of Kristiansund and the western end of the tunnel is on the island of Averøya, just west of the village of Sveggen. The long tunnel runs beneath the Bremsnesfjorden, reaching a depth of , making it one of the deepest undersea tunnels in the world. Construction began in 2006, and the tunnel opened on 19 December 2009, later than initially estimated. Breakthrough was in March 2009. Problems with water leaks caused delays and cost overruns. The name of the tunnel comes from its connection of two islands located at the open Atlantic Ocean, and serves as an extension of the Atlantic Ocean Road (), a popular tourist attraction. The Nordsund Bridge () is a bridge that crosses the Nordsundet strait between the islands of Nordlandet and Gomalandet in the town of Kristiansund which is in Kristiansund Municipality, Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. Norwegian National Road 70
National Road 70 () is a long national highway that runs from the town of Kristiansund in Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county and the village of Oppdal in Oppdal Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The road starts in downtown Kristiansund. It passes an intersection with the terminus of County Road 64, before passing by Kristiansund Airport, Kvernberget. The road crosses via the Nordsund Bridge from the island of Nordlandet to the island of Gomalandet. From Gomalandet to the island of Bergsøya, it crosses under the Freifjorden in the Freifjord Tunnel, and then onwards to the mainland via the Bergsøysund Bridge and the Straumsund Bridge.
