Kirchen (Sieg)
Kirchen (Sieg) is a town and Luftkurort (climatic spa) in the district of Altenkirchen (district), Altenkirchen in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the river Sieg (river), Sieg, approx. 12 km southwest of Siegen. Among its notable features is the Freusburg castle. Kirchen is the seat of the Verbandsgemeinde Kirchen (Sieg) (Verbandsgemeinde, ''collective municipality''). History In early 1942, Kirchen and Wehbach were forcibly united with the Nazi government and renamed Kirchen-Wehbach (Sieg). Despite protests from the people of Wehbach, this merger and renaming persisted even after the end of the war for two and a half decades, until additional former municipalities were annexed. On 7 June 1969, the municipalities of Freusburg, Herkersdorf, Offhausen, Wingendorf, and Katzenbach, with the exception of the Unterbüdenholz district, which was incorporated into Brachbach, were amalgamated. Christoph Klein (born 18 August 1964 in Kirchen (Sieg)) is a German Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist and Director at the Dr. von Hauner Children’s Hospital, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, Germany. Career Christoph Klein completed clinical and scientific training at the Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital Munich, Hôpital Necker Enfants Malades, Paris, University Children's Hospital Freiburg, and Boston Children's Hospital. Georg Bätzing
Georg Bätzing (born 13 April 1961) is a German Catholic prelate who has served as Bishop of Limburg since 2016 and chairman of the German Bishops' Conference since March 2020. Early life and career Bätzing was born in Kirchen and grew up in Niederfischbach. He was an altar boy, sang in the church choir and served as an organist there. After his ''Abitur'', he entered the major seminary of the Diocese of Trier. He studied theology and philosophy at Trier University and Freiburg University, graduating in 1985. Jürgen Alzen (born 26 November 1962 in Kirchen, Rhineland-Palatinate) is a race car driving, driver from Germany. He drove one race in both the FIA GT Championship and the American Le Mans Series of 2001 for his own Alzen Porsche team. He has also raced in Australia appearing in both the 2002 Bathurst 24 Hour, 2002 and 2003 Bathurst 24 Hour races held at the Mount Panorama Circuit. Alzen finished the 2003 race in 4th outright and 1st in Class B driving a Porsche 911 GT3#Motorsport, Porsche 996 GT3 S Cup. Altenkirchen () is a district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the North Rhine-Westphalian districts Rhein-Sieg, Oberbergischer Kreis, Olpe (district), Olpe and Siegen-Wittgenstein, and the districts of Westerwaldkreis and Neuwied (district), Neuwied.
