Kieran Prendiville
Kieran Prendiville (born 25 December 1947) is an English-Irish television writer, producer, and presenter. Early life Prendiville was born on 25 December 1947 in Rochdale, Lancashire, the son of an Irish father from Killorglin, County Kerry, who had relocated to Rochdale to practise medicine. He attended Clongowes Wood College in Clane, County Kildare, the same Jesuit boarding school his father had attended. Career Presenting Working alongside Glyn Worsnip, Prendiville was a presenter of the BBC consumer programme ''That's Life!'' from 1973 to 1978, having served on the production team from the very first episode. Also featuring on ''Tomorrow's World'', the BBC's science programme, an urban myth has it that he claimed that the CD was indestructible and that he demonstrated this by spreading strawberry jam on a copy of the Bee Gees' '' Living Eyes''; this in fact happened on BBC Breakfast Time. Rochdale ( ) is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, at the foothills of the South Pennines in the dale on the River Roch, northwest of Oldham and northeast of Manchester. It is the administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, which had a population of 211,699 in the 2011 census. Located within the historic boundaries of the county of Lancashire. ''Ballykissangel'' is a BBC television drama created by Kieran Prendiville and set in Ireland, produced in-house by BBC Northern Ireland. The original story revolved around a young English Roman Catholic priest as he became part of a rural community. It ran for six series, which were first broadcast on BBC One in the United Kingdom from 1996 to 2001. It aired in Ireland on RTÉ One and in Australia on ABC TV from 1996 to 2001. Repeats have been shown on Drama in the United Kingdom and in the United States on some PBS affiliates. Significant changes in the cast occurred at the end of series 3 following the departure of central characters Peter Clifford and Assumpta Fitzgerald. The show faced a decline in ratings from a peak level of 10 million viewers to 4.8 million and was eventually cancelled in 2001. ITV Network
ITV is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network. It was launched in 1955 as Independent Television to provide competition to BBC Television (established in 1936). ITV is the oldest commercial network in the UK. Since the passing of the Broadcasting Act 1990, it has been legally known as Channel 3 to distinguish it from the other analogue channels at the time, BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 4.
