Kielsen VII Cabinet
The seventh Cabinet of Kim Kielsen was the Government of Greenland in office from 29 May 2020 to 8 February 2021. It was a coalition minority government consisting of Siumut, the Democrats and Nunatta Qitornai. On 8 February 2021 the Democrats left the coalition following disagreement with the new leadership of Siumut over a proposed open-pit mine near the town of Narsaq. Some of their responsibilities were distributed among the remaining members of the cabinet. An early election was called following the 2021 opening of the national assembly, which was held on 6 April 2021. Kim Kielsen
Kim Kielsen (born 30 November 1966) is a Greenlandic politician, who served as leader of the Siumut party and sixth prime minister of Greenland between 2014 and 2021. Careers Past careers Kielsen was originally a mariner, and then a police officer with Rigspolitiet from 1996 to 2003 in Upernavik and Paamiut. Political career Kielsen entered politics in 2005 when he was elected to the Greenlandic parliament for Siumut and to the municipal government of Paamiut. In the government of Aleqa Hammond, he was the minister for housing, nature and the environment. He became acting premier in October 2014 when Hammond stepped down and the Siumut party subsequently elected Kielsen as its leader, awarding him 44 of the 65 votes. Open-pit mining, also known as open-cast or open-cut mining and in larger contexts mega-mining, is a surface mining technique of extracting rock or minerals from the earth from an open-air pit, sometimes known as a borrow. This form of mining differs from extractive methods that require tunnelling into the earth, such as long wall mining. Open-pit mines are used when deposits of commercially useful ore or rocks are found near the surface. It is applied to ore or rocks found at the surface because the overburden is relatively thin or the material of interest is structurally unsuitable for tunnelling (as would be the case for cinder, sand, and gravel). Jess Kristian Svane (born 5 May 1959) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut). Early life and career Svane was born on 5 May 1959 in Qasigiannguit. Before his political career, he worked primarily in the commercial sector. Between 1992 and 2001 he was the port manager of Qasigiannguit before becoming self-employed in 2004. He and his wife Emilie have four children. Political career Svane was appointed mayor of the municipality of Qasigiannguit after the 2005 local elections, in which he received 74 votes. In the parliamentary election in the same year he missed entry into Inatsisartut with 69 votes. Vittus Qujaukitsoq (born October 5, 1971 in Qaanaaq, Greenland, Kingdom of Denmark) is a Greenlandic Politics of Greenland, politician. Martha Abelsen
Martha Abelsen (born 1957) is a Greenlandic politician. She was born in Nuuk and trained as a kindergarten teacher. She also received management training. Abelsen worked for the KANUKOKA, the association of Greenland municipalities, for 15 years. She began work there as a consultant and, in 1999, became director. Abelsen was elected chairman in 2010. Anna Wangenheim (née Mikkelsen; born August 1982) is a Greenlandic politician (Demokraatit). Early life and career Anna Wangenheim is the middle of three daughters of Danish carpenter Henning Mikkelsen and Greenlandic hospital administrator Karline Kristiansen, a daughter of the sheep farmer Abel Kristiansen. Through her mother, she is the niece of Benedikte Thorsteinsson (b. 1950) and cousin of Vittus Qujaukitsoq (b. 1971). Her mother died of cancer when Anna was 18 and her father also had cancer three years later. After her father actually wanted her to become a nurse, she began studying journalism at the journalism school in Nuuk after graduating from school in 2003 due to her parents' illnesses.
