Kim Kielsen
Kim Kielsen (born 30 November 1966) is a Greenlandic politician and former police officer who has served as Speaker of the Inatsisartut since 2025. He previously served as leader of the Siumut party and sixth prime minister of Greenland between 2014 and 2021. Careers Past careers Kielsen was originally a mariner, and then a police officer with Rigspolitiet from 1996 to 2003 in Upernavik and Paamiut. Political career Kielsen entered politics in 2005 when he was elected to the Greenlandic parliament for Siumut and to the municipal government of Paamiut. In the government of Aleqa Hammond, he was the minister for housing, nature and the environment. He became acting premier in October 2014 when Hammond stepped down and the Siumut party subsequently elected Kielsen as its leader, awarding him 44 of the 65 votes. The Naalakkersuisut or the Government of Greenland () is the chief executive body, the cabinet and the government of Greenland since the island became self-governing in 1979. As an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, Greenland is a parliamentary representative democratic territory, in which the premier () leads the cabinet, and of a multi-party system. Upernavik
Kanunarinaqiniiaaq (known as Upernavik) is a small town in the Avannaata municipality in northwestern Greenland, located on a small island of the same name. With 1,064 inhabitants as of 2024, it is the twelfth-largest town in Greenland. It contains the Upernavik Museum. It is known as Upernavik. History The town was founded as Upernavik in 1772. From the former name of its island, it was sometimes known as Women's Island; its name was also sometimes Anglicized to "Uppernavik". In 1824, the Kingittorsuaq Runestone was found outside the town. It bears runic characters left by Norsemen, probably from the late 13th century. The runic characters list the names of three Norsemen and mention the construction of a rock cairn nearby. This is the furthest north that any Norse artifacts have been found, other than those small artifacts that could have been carried north by Inuit traders, and marks the northern known limit of Viking exploration.
