__NOTOC__ The Kharkov KhAI-24 was a 1960s Soviet two-seat autogyro designed by the Kharkiv Aviation Institute. Design and development The KhAI-24 was designed by students of the Kharkiv Aviation Institute for an Estonian Ministry for the Energy Industry competition for a light autogyro for power cable inspection.Namcek 1986, pp. 382-383 The two-seat autogyro had an enclosed cabin and a tricycle landing gear, it was powered by a Walter M332 aircraft engine driving a tractor configuration In aviation, a tractor configuration is a propeller-driven fixed-wing aircraft with its engine mounted with the propeller in front, so that the aircraft is "pulled" through the air. Tractor Configuration
In aviation, a tractor configuration is a propeller-driven fixed-wing aircraft with its engine mounted with the propeller in front, so that the aircraft is "pulled" through the air. This is the usual configuration; the pusher configuration places the airscrew behind, and "pushes" the aircraft forward. Through common usage, the word "propeller" has come to mean any airscrew, whether it pulls or pushes the aircraft. In the early years of powered aviation both tractor and pusher designs were common. However, by the midpoint of the First World War, interest in pushers declined and the tractor configuration dominated. Today, propeller-driven aircraft are assumed to be tractors unless stated otherwise. The Avia M 332 (originally known as the Walter M332) is an air-cooled four-cylinder inverted inline engine. It was designed by Bohumil Šimůnek, of Motorlet Walter Aircraft Engines, as a more powerful replacement for the four-cylinder Walter Minor engine, going into production in 1958.
