Khandakar Muhammad Illyas
Khandakar Muhammad Illyas (1923–1995) was a writer, left-wing politician, and supporter of ties between Bangladesh and the Soviet Union. Early life Illyas was born on 3 May 1923.Wikipedia:SPS, Career Illyas toured China with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah, and Ataur Rahman Khan in 1952 to attend Asia and Pacific Rim Peace Conference. Illyas was a leader of the Bangladesh-USSR society. He served as a member of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League, the one party government established by Awami League in 1975. After the Assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the 15 August 1975 Bangladesh coup d'état Illyas was arrested by the new military regime in 1976. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ( bn, শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান; 17 March 1920 – 15 August 1975), often shortened as Sheikh Mujib or Mujib and widely known as Bangabandhu (meaning ''Friend of Bengal''), was a Bengali politician, parliamentarian and the founding leader of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He first served as the titular President of the Provisional Government of Bangladesh between April 1971 and January 1972. Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah ( – 1 June 1969) was a Bengali journalist and politician. He served as the founding editor of ''The Daily Ittefaq''. He wrote the editorial Rajnoitik Moncho (''The Political Stage''). Most of his journalists were considered leftist as Miah followed the pattern of Awami League. According to journalist and editor of Shongbad Bozlur Rahman, Awami activists followed his editorial more than any actual decision of a meeting. Early life Miah was born in Bhandaria Thana of Pirojpur District in 1911. He attended Pirojpur High School upon passing his entrance examination and earned his B. Ataur Rahman Khan ( bn, আতাউর রহমান খান; 1 July 1907 – 7 December 1991) was a Bangladeshi lawyer, politician and writer, and served as Chief Minister of East Pakistan from 1 September 1956 – March 1958, and as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from 30 March 1984 to 9 July 1986. Early life Ataur Rahman Khan was born on 1 July 1905/1907 at Balia village, Dhamrai Thana, Dhaka District, East Bengal, British India. He pgraduated from Pogose School in Dhaka in 1924. He then graduated from Jagannath College in 1927. He obtained Bachelors degree in economics and law from the University of Dhaka in 1930 and 1936 respectively. Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani (12 December 1880 – 17 November 1976), often shortened as Maulana Bhashani, was a Bengali politician. His political tenure spanned the British colonial India, Pakistan and Bangladesh periods. Maulana Bhashani was popularly known by the honorary title Mozlum Jananeta (Leader of the Oppressed) for his lifelong stance advocating for the poor. He gained nationwide mass popularity among the peasants and helped to build the East Pakistan Peasant Association. Tassaduq Ahmad, born Tassaduq Ahmad Chowdhury, MBE was a British-Bangladeshi politician, social worker, and activist. Early life Ahmad was born on 2 April 1923 in Golapganj Upazila, Sylhet District, Assam, British India. His father, Madris Ahmad Chowdhury, was a bureaucrat. In 1943, he removed Chowdhury from his name due to the name being a Zamindar title. He was the General Secretary of All Assam Muslim Students Federation and campaigned in the 1947 Sylhet Referendum which resulted in Sylhet District being separated from Assam and joined to East Bengal (present Bangladesh). BIRDEM, the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders at Shahbag, Dhaka, Bangladesh, is a 600-bed multidisciplinary hospital complex of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh. The hospital was established in 1980 with the financial support of Bangladesh. In BIRDEM, 3,000 patients are treated in the Out Patients Department (OPD) every day. No other hospital in Bangladesh serves so many diabetes patients. History The Diabetic Association for Pakistan (later Bangladesh Diabetic Association) was formed under the leadership of national professor Muhammad Ibrahim in February 1956. He offered a ground floor room of his home in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, to be used by the association, and there he began outpatient services for diabetes.
