''Kelloggia galioides'' is a species of flowering plant in the coffee family known by the common name milk kelloggia. It is a perennial herb that is native to the Western United States. Description ''Kelloggia galioides'' is a rhizomatous perennial herb growing a very slender, erect stem to a maximum height near 40 centimeters. Lance-shaped green leaves are arranged oppositely on the stem, especially at axils where it branches. Each is 2 to 4 centimeters long. A thin-branched open inflorescence produces a few small bright pink or white flowers. The flower is funnel-shaped with the rounded, hairy green fruit developing at its base. The flower has narrow, pointed lobes on its open face. Its bloom period is from May to August. Rubieae is a tribe of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae and contains 970 species in 15 genera. The genus ''Galium'' is responsible for more than two thirds of the species in the tribe. The second largest genus is ''Asperula'', which contains about 200 species. Unlike the rest of the family Rubiaceae, the tribe contains predominantly perennial and annual herbs with pseudowhorls of leaves and leaflike stipules and is centered in temperate and tropical-mountain regions. Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker (30 June 1817 – 10 December 1911) was a British botanist and explorer in the 19th century. He was a founder of geographical botany and Charles Darwin's closest friend. For twenty years he served as director of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, succeeding his father, William Jackson Hooker, and was awarded the highest honours of British science. World Checklist Of Selected Plant Families
The World Checklist of Selected Plant Families (usually abbreviated to WCSP) is an "international collaborative programme that provides the latest peer reviewed and published opinions on the accepted scientific names and synonyms of selected plant families." Maintained by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, it is available online, allowing searches for the names of families, genera and species, as well as the ability to create checklists. The project traces its history to work done in the 1990s by Kew researcher Rafaël Govaerts on a checklist of the genus '' Quercus''. The Plant List was a list of botanical names of species of plants created by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Missouri Botanical Garden and launched in 2010. George Bentham
George Bentham (22 September 1800 – 10 September 1884) was an English botanist, described by the weed botanist Duane Isely as "the premier systematic botanist of the nineteenth century". Born into a distinguished family, he initially studied law, but had a fascination with botany from an early age, which he soon pursued, becoming president of the Linnaean Society in 1861, and a fellow of the Royal Society in 1862. He was the author of a number of important botanical works, particularly flora.
