Kawann Short
Kawann Arcell Short (born February 2, 1989) is an American football defensive tackle who is a free agent. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played college football at Purdue. Early years Short was born in East Chicago, Indiana. He went to Central High School in East Chicago. There, he was a two-sport athlete playing both football and basketball. He was a high school teammate of E'Twaun Moore during basketball season, and the two led the Cardinals to the Indiana class 4A state title in 2007. Short was rated as a three-star recruit and was rated the number 24 defensive tackle nationally by Scout.com. As a junior, Short recorded 80 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks. As a senior, he registered 85 tackles, 9 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 blocked punts. He committed to Purdue University on April 13, 2007. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach.
