Karl Döhring
Karl Siegfried Döhring (often misspelled Döring; 14 August 1879, in Cologne – 1 June 1941, in Darmstadt; also writing under the pseudonym Ravi Ravendro) was a German architect, art historian and archaeologist. He lived mostly in Siam, now called Thailand. Life and work Döhring studied architecture in Berlin. He was fascinated by the rich art and architecture of Burma, and after completing his architectural studies in Berlin in 1905, he applied for a position with the Royal Siamese government in Bangkok. He began his work in July 1906 as an engineer with the Royal State Railways of Siam. Between 1906 and 1912, he planned and supervised the construction of various railway buildings: including headquarters, crew accommodation, warehouses, a printing house and several train stations at Bangkok Noi (Thonburi), Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phichai (Tambon), Uttaradit and Sawankhalok. Phetchaburi
Phetchaburi ( th, เพชรบุรี, ) or Phet Buri () is a town ('' thesaban mueang'') in southern Thailand, capital of Phetchaburi Province. In Thai, Phetchaburi means "city of diamonds" (''buri'' meaning "city" in Sanskrit). It is approximately 160 km south of Bangkok, at the northern end of the Thai peninsula. The culture of Thailand has evolved greatly over time, from its relative isolation during the Sukhothai era, to its more contemporary Ayutthaya era, which absorbed influences from all over Asia. Thai Folklore
Thai folklore is a diverse set of mythology and traditional beliefs held by the Thai people. Most Thai folklore has a regional background for it originated in rural Thailand. With the passing of time, and through the influence of the media, large parts of Thai folklore have become interwoven with the wider popular Thai culture. Phraya Anuman Rajadhon (1888–1969) was the first Thai scholar to seriously study local folkloristics. He took copious notes on humble details of his culture such as the charms used by Thai shopkeepers to attract customers. Varadis Palace
Varadis Palace ( th, วังวรดิศ; ) is the former residence of Prince Tisavarakumarn, the Prince Damrong Rajanubhab on Lan Luang Road in Bangkok, Thailand. The palace was built in 1911 by German architect Karl Döhring during the reign of King Rama V to the reign of King Rama VI. After Prince Tisavarakumarn died at this palace on 1 December 1943, the palace was preserved by his heir Mom Rajawongse Sangkadis Diskul, former Ambassador to Malaysia, Switzerland and the Vatican and presently by his great grandson, Mom Luang Panadda Diskul, former Provincial Governor of Nakhon Pathom and Chiang Mai and a member of the House of Senate. Phra Ram Ratchaniwet
Phra Ram Ratchaniwet ( th, พระรามราชนิเวศน์), also commonly known as Ban Puen Palace (), is a former royal palace in Thailand's Phetchaburi Province. It now serves as a museum, operated by the Royal Thai Army. History The palace was commissioned in 1910 by King Chulalongkorn, in order to serve as an alternative country residence to the royal palace of Phra Nakhon Khiri, whose hilltop location was becoming inconvenient. Construction commenced in 1910, but Chulalongkorn died the same year, before its completion. The palace was completed in 1916 in the reign of his successor, King Vajiravudh, who named it Phra Ram Ratchaniwet. It is also commonly known as Ban Puen after the village it is located in. Phitsanulok railway station is a railway station in Phitsanulok and it is the main station for the province. It is owned by the State Railway of Thailand and is on the Northern Line. Phitsanulok railway station is from Bangkok railway station. Formerly, the Nakhon Phing Express did not stop at this station and proceeded straight to Sila At Station in Uttaradit.
