Kambri Crews
Kambri Crews (born June 22, 1971) is an American comedic storyteller based in New York City and author of ''The New York Times'' bestseller ''Burn Down the Ground: A Memoir,'' a book about her chaotic childhood with deaf parents. Crews was spotlighted as a top comedy choice in the May 19, 2008 edition of '' Time Out'', which called her an "emerging monologist." Crews has also been referred to as a "world-class storyteller". Career As a CODA, Crews' storytelling is notable for mixing conventional monologues with the use of American Sign Language; and for finding the humor in even the most hair-raising of childhood memories. Crews' tales typically focus on her childhood in the deep woods of Montgomery, Texas, where she lived in everything from a tin shed to a trailer to the tin shed again. Peoples Improv Theater
The Peoples Improv Theater (PIT), also known as the PIT, is a comedy theater and training center in New York City, founded by comedian Ali Farahnakian in 2002. Shows combine improvisational comedy, sketch comedy, stand-up comedy, stand-up, theater, and variety shows, variety. Each show is hosted by a combination of "house teams" of comedians hired by PIT and by outside comedians. After closing several of their theaters due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The PIT now only resides in its PIT Loft location in the Chelsea, Manhattan, Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. ECNY Awards
The ECNY Awards (formerly the Emerging Comics of New York Awards) were created by Derrick Gordon to honor rising stars in the New York Comedy world in various genres, including sketch, stand up, improv, musical comedy acts, and video. The awards ran from 2003 to 2011, with the exception of a hiatus in 2006. Nominees are selected by New York audiences and an Industry Committee, and the general public votes online to determine the winners, who are announced at an awards show gala each year. After a one-year hiatus in 2006, the awards were produced by a new production team consisting of Alex Goldberg, Jon Friedman, Carol Hartsell, Nate Sloan, and Alex Zalben. In 2010, Alex Goldberg left the team and Kambri Crews was added as an Executive Producer.
