Kalash People
The Kalash (), or Kalasha, are a small Indo-Aryan indigenous people residing in the Chitral District of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The term is also used to refer to several distinct Nuristani speaking people, including the Väi, the Čima-nišei, the Vântä, plus the Ashkun- and Tregami-speakers. According one Kalash-tradition, their ancestors migrated "some centuries ago" to Chitral Valley from the Waigal Valley, of Nuristan Province, Afghanistan, or a location further south, called "Tsiyam" in their folk songs and epics, and possibly located near Jalalabad and Lughman in Afghanistan. Another tradition claims descent from the armies of Alexander who were left behind from his armed campaign, though no evidence exists for him to have passed the area. During the Muslim rule in Chitral in the 14th century most of the Kalash gradually converted to Islam, except a small number of them who upheld their religion and customs, but they were restricted to t ...

Kalašma Language
The Kalašma language, or Kalasmaic, is an extinct Anatolian language spoken in the late Bronze Age polity of Kalašma, which lay on the northwest fringe of the Hittite Empire, likely in or around what is now the Turkish province of Bolu. Discovery The first (and thus far only) Kalasmaic text was discovered in 2023, by researchers at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. It is written on a clay tablet indexed KBo 71.145.Schwemer 2024 p. XIX The tablet, written in Hittite cuneiform of the 13th century BCE, is one of several Hittite texts recording rituals of the empire's subjects and neighbouring peoples. Its Hittite-language introduction describes its main text as in "the language of Kalašma" (). The language was deciphered by Prof. Daniel Schwemer in the 71st volume of the edition "Keilschrifttexte aus Boghazköi (Cuneiform Texts from Boghazköi)" and is part of the Anatolian branch of the Indo-European language family as confirmed by Prof. Elisabeth Rieken at Philipp ...

Kalašma
KalaÅ¡ma or Kalasma (occasionally KalaÅ¡pa) was a late Bronze Age polity in Northern Anatolia on the border of the Hittite Empire. Geography KalaÅ¡ma was located somewhere in northwestern Anatolia. Though its precise location is uncertain, its location relative to other places can be deduced from geographical references in contemporary documents. For instance, it is known to have been south of Arawanna and west of Pala. Current research suggests that it was located near modern day Bolu. A city called ''Harranassi'' may have been located in KalaÅ¡ma. When Hittite was first deciphered, BedÅ™ich Hrozný took the placename "KalaÅ¡mitta" to be a variant of "KalaÅ¡ma", but current research suggests that they were in fact separate places. History Forlanini says that ''KalaÅ¡ma'' was not a tribal name but a city-state, the eponymous city having been fortified by the Hittite king Hantili I (died c. 1560 BCE). Hantili failed to reinstate KalaÅ¡ma's local weather god, and on returning to á ...

Kalasha (finial)
A ''kalasha'' () is a finial, generally in the form of metal or stone spire, used to top the domes of Hindu temples. Kalashas as architectural feature has been used at least before the first millennium BCE and were made of terracotta and wood during this early period. They were used as decorative element placed on top of various types of buildings. They are mainly restricted to temple architecture in the contemporary period. Present in the form of an inverted pot with a point facing the sky, kalashas are prominent elements of temple architecture. According to the ''Aitareya Brahmana'', a golden kalasha is regarded to represent a sun upon the summit of a deity's dwelling, the temple. Most kalashams are made of metal and some of stone. The view of the ''gopuram'' (temple tower) is one of the important rituals of Hindu worship along with view of the '' dhvaja stambha'' (temple flag mast). These gopurams are usually topped with ornamental kalashas. Kalashas are consecrated dur ...

Kalasha-mun
Kalasha (, locally: ) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Kalash people, in the Chitral District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. There are an estimated 7,466 speakers of Kalasha according to the 2023 Census of Pakistan. It is an endangered language and there is an ongoing language shift to Khowar. Kalasha should not be confused with the nearby Nuristani Kalasha (known as "Kalasha-ala" or "Waigali"), which is a Nuristani language. According to Badshah Munir Bukhari, a researcher on the Kalash, "Kalasha" is also the ethnic name for the Nuristani inhabitants of a region southwest of the Kalasha Valleys, in the Waygal and middle Pech Valleys of Afghanistan's Nuristan Province. The name "Kalasha" seems to have been adopted for the Kalash people by the Kalasha speakers of Chitral from the Nuristanis of Waygal, who for a time expanded up to southern Chitral several centuries ago. However, there is no close connection between the Indo-Aryan language Kalasha-mu ...
