Kairo (film)
is a 2001 Japanese techno-horror film written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. The film was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. The movie was well-received critically and has a cult following. An English-language remake, also titled '' Pulse'', debuted in 2006 and spawned two sequels. The script was also adapted into a novel of the same name by Kurosawa himself. Plot The plot follows ghosts invading the living world via the Internet, with two parallel plotlines that eventually converge. In the first, Michi Kudo, newly moved to Tokyo, works at a plant shop with Junko Sasano, Toshio Yabe, and Taguchi, who has been missing for several days while working on a computer disk for the shop's sales. Michi goes to Taguchi's apartment and finds him distracted and aloof; while looking for the disk, she turns and finds he has hanged himself, his decaying body making her question who she had spoken to earlier. Kiyoshi Kurosawa
is a Japanese film director, screenwriter, film critic, author, actor, and a former professor at Tokyo University of the Arts (2005-2023). Noted for his psychological films that often focus on ambiguous narratives and on their characters' inner turmoils and quests for meaning and connections, he is best known for his contributions to psychological horror and Japanese horror, notably his acclaimed 1997 film '' Cure'', although he has also worked in a variety of other genres. While most of his work has been in Japanese, two of his films, '' Daguerrotype'' (2016) and '' Serpent's Path'' (2024; a remake of his own 1998 film of the same name), were in French.
