KKNT (960 AM, "960 The Patriot") is a radio station broadcasting a conservative talk radio format in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. The station is owned by Salem Communications Holding Corporation, a subsidiary of the Salem Media Group. Studios are located at 24th Street and Camelback in Phoenix; the transmitter is on the city's northern edge. Established in 1947 as KOOL, the station became a force in Phoenix radio nearly immediately after Gene Autry purchased the outlet within a year of its operation. KPXQ (1360 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station, airing a Christian talk and teaching radio format. It is licensed to Glendale, Arizona, and serves the Phoenix metropolitan area. It is owned by Salem Media Group with studios on East Camelback Road in Phoenix. By day, KPXQ is powered at 50,000 watts non-directional, the highest output for commercial AM stations. But to protect other stations on 1360 AM from interference, at night it reduces power to 500 watts and uses a directional antenna. The transmitter is on also on Camelback Road, but at a different location near North 73rd Avenue. Programming KPXQ is a brokered programming station. William Edward Compton
William Edward "Bill" Compton III (December 29, 1945 – June 21, 1977) was an American radio personality best known for creating Phoenix's first free-form radio station, KCAC-AM, and helping to "invent" notable AOR station, KDKB-FM. Compton Terrace, an amphitheater in Phoenix was named in his honor and he was inducted into the Arizona Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2005. Early life Compton was born in Henderson, Texas, but his family soon moved to Tyler, Texas, where he attended John Tyler High School and got his first disc jockey job in 1964. Tolleson, Arizona
Tolleson is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population of the city was 7,216 as of the 2020 census, up from 6,545 in 2010. History The city was incorporated in 1929 and named after founders Walter G. Tolleson and his wife Alethea H. Tolleson. The Tollesons moved to the area in 1910, buying a 160-acre ranch at the intersection of 91st Avenue and Van Buren Street. Walter Tolleson reopened the Ten Mile Store which was the first stagecoach stop and general merchandise store in route to Yuma from Phoenix. The store was located on what is now the intersection of 91st Drive and Monroe Street. In 1912, the Tollesons subdivided their ranch, allowing more people to buy their land. KTAR (620 Hertz, kHz) is an AM radio, AM commercial radio station licensed to Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Owned and operated by Bonneville International, it features a Sports radio, sports format airing programming from ESPN Radio. The studios are located in north Phoenix near Piestewa Peak, and the station broadcasts with 5,000 watts from a transmitter site near the corner of 36th Street and Thomas Road.
