KTAR (AM)
KTAR (620 Hertz, kHz) is an AM radio, AM commercial radio station licensed to Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Owned and operated by Bonneville International, it features a Sports radio, sports format airing programming from ESPN Radio. The studios are located in north Phoenix near Piestewa Peak, and the station broadcasts with 5,000 watts from a transmitter site near the corner of 36th Street and Thomas Road. KTAR was established in 1922 as KFAD, owned by the McArthur brothers, and became one of just two stations in Phoenix (alongside KFYI, KOY) from the early 1920s through 1940. It was purchased by ''The Arizona Republic, The Arizona Republican'' (soon renamed the ''Arizona Republic'') in 1929 and adopted its present call sign in January 1930 as part of a major overhaul. KPNX
KPNX (channel 12) is a television station licensed to Mesa, Arizona, United States, serving the Phoenix area as an affiliate of NBC. The station is owned by Tegna Inc., and maintains studios at the Republic Media building on Van Buren Street in downtown Phoenix (which also houses formerly co-owned newspaper ''The Arizona Republic''); its transmitter is located atop South Mountain on the city's south side. KPNX is also broadcast on satellite station KNAZ-TV (channel 2) in Flagstaff, which formerly was a separate NBC affiliate, and a network of low-power translators across northern and central Arizona. Channel 12 was the second TV station on the air in the Phoenix area, starting in 1953. The Blue Network (previously known as the NBC Blue Network) was the on-air name of a now defunct American Commercial broadcasting, radio network, which broadcast from 1927 through 1945. Beginning as one of the two radio networks owned by the NBC, National Broadcasting Company (NBC), the independent Blue Network was born of a divestiture in 1942, arising from antitrust litigation. The National Broadcasting Company's NBC Radio Network (also known as the NBC Red Network from 1927 to 1942) was an American commercial radio network which was in continuous operation from 1926 through 1999. Along with the NBC Blue Network, it was one of the first two nationwide networks established in the United States. Phoenix Union High School
Phoenix Union High School (PUHS) was a high school that was part of the Phoenix Union High School District in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, one of five high school-only school districts in the Phoenix area. Founded in 1895 and closed in 1982, the school consisted of numerous buildings on a campus which by 1928 consisted of 18 acres. In 1982, the majority of the campus was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Phoenix Union High School Historic District With The PUHS campus was included in the Phoenix Historic Property Register in 1986, and received landmark designation in 2003. The Heard Building (alternatively the Greater Arizona Savings Building) is a 7-story high-rise building in Phoenix, Arizona, United States, it housed the offices of The Arizona Republic (formerly the Arizona Republican) and the Phoenix Gazette from 1920 to 1948. The Federal Radio Commission's (FRC) General Order 40, dated August 30, 1928, described the standards for a sweeping reorganization of radio broadcasting in the United States. It was first held in 1884, but has had various interruptions due to cotton crop failure, the Great Depression era, World War I & World War II years & the COVID-19 pandemic.
