KSQD (90.7, 89.5, 89.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to serve the Central Coast of California, including the communities Santa Cruz, California, Watsonville, Monterey, Salinas, and Prunedale. The nonprofit community radio station is owned by Natural Bridges Media, and airs a variety format. The station was assigned the call sign KLSN by the Federal Communications Commission on May 1, 1998. It changed its call sign to KJOL on December 26, 2000, to KSRI on April 23, 2001, and to KSQD on December 18, 2018. Natural Bridges acquired KSRI from Educational Media Foundation in May 2018. Swap to Educational Media Foundation Prunedale Educational Association announced it would be swapping the then-KLVM and its five translators to Educational Media Foundation (EMF) for KARW Salinas. The transaction was consummated on December 19, 2017. EMF changed the station's call sign to KNVM on January 22, 2018. KLVM (88.9 MHz) is an FM radio station broadcasting a Contemporary Christian music format. Licensed to Santa Cruz, California, United States, the station is an affiliate of the K-LOVE Christian music radio network and is owned by Educational Media Foundation. The signal covers much of California's Central Coast. Pataphysical Broadcasting Foundation, 1972 David Freedman and Lorenzo Milam started KUSP, as ''Pataphysical Broadcasting Foundation, Inc.'' on 89.1 MHz in 1972, broadcasting from downtown Santa Cruz. In May 1974, it moved the transmitter to the much higher Mt. Toro, increased power from 10 watts to 1,250 watts ERP and changed frequency from 89.1 to 88.9 MHz. Air1 is an American Christian radio network owned by the Educational Media Foundation (EMF), a non-profit Christian ministry. It primarily broadcasts contemporary worship music, and is a sister to the EMF's K-Love network. History On July 15, 1986, KLRD began broadcasting Christian hit/rock music from Yucaipa, California, and went by the on-air moniker K-LORD. In 1994, KXRD was started as a sister station to KLRD. In 1995, K-LORD changed its name to "Air1" and began broadcasting via satellite from St. Helens, Oregon. Air1 Radio (formerly K-LORD) was originally launched by K-LOVE founder Bob Anthony Fogal and Jon and Noonie Fuglar. Variety is a radio format that plays music across numerous genres. Free-form radio, Free-form variety is associated with a wide range of programming including talk, sports, and music from a wide spectrum. This format is usually found on smaller, Non-commercial activity, non-commercial public broadcasting stations such as Campus radio, college radio, community radio or high school radio stations. If a variety-formatted station has a program director, that person exerts little if any influence on the music or other programming choices beyond the normal regulatory control required by that country's licensing regulations. Variety is also associated with full service (radio format), full-service radio.
