KPRB (Oregon)
KPRB was a radio station operating on 1240 AM in Redmond–Bend, Oregon. It went on the air in 1952 and was taken silent in 1994 so that its owner could buy other radio stations in the Bend area. The 1240 frequency was put up for auction after KPRB's license was surrendered and returned to the air as KRDM in 2004. History KPRB signed on as KSGA on October 7, 1952, broadcasting with 250 watts. Owned by Oregon station owner Gordon Allen and Harold Singleton, it was affiliated with ABC upon signing on. Allen, however, sold the station within 9 months to founding general manager F. Gilbert Lieser; the call letters were changed on March 15, 1953 to KJUN, reflecting the name of the new ownership: Juniper Broadcasters. (Gordon Allen promptly used the KSGA call letters for the next station he started, KSGA in Cottage Grove, which launched on July 26, 1953.) Redmond is a city in Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. Incorporated on July 6, 1910, the city is on the eastern side of Oregon's Cascade Range, in the High Desert in Central Oregon. KOTI (channel 2) is a television station in Klamath Falls, Oregon, United States, affiliated with NBC and owned by California Oregon Broadcasting, Inc. The station maintains a news bureau on South 7th Street in downtown Klamath Falls, and its transmitter is located atop Stukel Mountain. KOTI operates as a full-time satellite of Medford-licensed company flagship KOBI (channel 5), whose studios are located on South Fir Street in downtown Medford. KOTI covers areas of southwest and south-central Oregon that receive a marginal to non-existent over-the-air signal from KOBI, although there is significant overlap between the two stations' contours otherwise. KRXF (92.9 FM) is a commercial modern rock music radio station in Bend, Oregon, broadcasting to the Bend, Oregon, area. The station is referred to as "92/9". On Sunday July 11, 2010 KRXF moved from 92.7 FM to 92.9 FM. History As KXIQ at 94.1, in the 1980s and early 1990s, the station was branded as “Q94” with a Top 40 format. KXIQ switched to rock for less than two years, before becoming Hot Adult Contemporary “Mix 94” KXIX in 1994. The format changed again in 1996, to Modern Rock “X94” which later evolved back to rock. In July 2002, KXIX returned to Top 40 as “Power 94” and has remained one of the most listened-to stations in Central Oregon. KICE (940 AM) was a commercial radio station in Bend, Oregon, broadcasting on 940 AM. The station shut down on March 31, 2017 (bearing for its final 8 days on air the KCOE call letters); its FCC license was deleted on March 12, 2019. KICE history KICE radio was originally (on 100.7 FM, now KMGX) a beautiful music station located in Bend, Oregon. Around 1980, in the height of the ''Urban Cowboy'' craze, KICE changed formats to 'Outlaw Country' playing such artists as: The Outlaws, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Willie and Waylon and Jerry Jeff Walker. KICE also included many traditional artists such as Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard and the Sons of the Pioneers at a time when most more commercial stations were playing more mainstream country acts. KLOO (1340 kHz) is an AM radio station broadcasting a news/talk format licensed to Corvallis, Oregon, United States. The station is currently owned by Bicoastal Media Licenses V, LLC and features programming from Compass Media Networks, Premiere Networks and Westwood One. History The Pacific States Radio Company obtained a construction permit for a new full-time radio station with 250 watts on 1340 kHz on October 31, 1946. The station would be the first commercial outlet to serve Corvallis. The president of the company was J. C. Haley, head of the Brown & Haley Co., a candy manufacturer in Tacoma, Washington. (note: station sign-on was delayed two weeks) The station signed on August 23, 1947. Its offices and studios were located at 1221 S. 15th Street in Corvallis.
