KMSA (91.3 FM) "Music for the Mavs" is a college radio station at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado. History KMSA began broadcasting February 20, 1975, from the campus of then-Mesa College, operating from space that formerly was unused rooms, a closet and a restroom. Its first year was rather turbulent, marked by the need to replace borrowed equipment (including a transmitter from the University of Northern Colorado) in the first year of operation and a citation from the Federal Communications Commission for having an unlicensed disc jockey; at one time, a student announced a dormitory party in progress, which proceeded to swell from 15 to 200 attendees. Further turmoil came when the station's 18 volunteers were forced out in 1977, in favor of having all programming be hosted by Mesa College students. Colorado Mesa University
Colorado Mesa University (CMU or Mesa) is a public university in Grand Junction, Colorado, United States. Originally established in 1925 as Grand Junction Junior College, the school was renamed to Mesa College in 1940. The college began offering bachelor's degrees in 1974, and in 1988, changed its name to Mesa State College to reflect its growing educational programs. In 2011, the school officially attained university status and adopted its current name. CMU's main campus sits on in central Grand Junction. CMU's branch campuses include CMU Tech in northwestern Grand Junction and a CMU regional campus in Montrose, about southeast of Grand Junction. Paonia, Colorado
Paonia is a statutory town in Delta County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,447 at the 2020 census. History The area was first explored by a white man of European descent in 1853, Captain John W. Gunnison of the United States Army. Gunnison was on an expedition for the Corps of Topographical Engineers to locate a suitable pass through the Rocky Mountains. The North Fork Valley was inhabited by the Ute people until 1880, when the Ute Indian Reservation was closed by the federal government following the infamous Meeker Massacre. Following the closure of the reservation, the site was settled in 1880 by Samuel Wade and William Clark, who had accompanied Enos Hotchkiss to the area. The town was officially incorporated in 1902 and had its first election in July of that year.
