KGBT (AM)
KYWW (1530 kHz, "Puro Tejano 1530 AM") is a Spanish language AM radio station, licensed to Harlingen, Texas, United States, and serving the Rio Grande Valley border area. It is owned by Latino Media Network, and airs a Spanish language Tejano music format. By day, KYWW is powered at 50,000 watts non-directional, the maximum for American commercial AM radio stations. Because 1530 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for KFBK in Sacramento and WCKY in Cincinnati, KYWW reduces power at night to 10,000 watts to avoid interference. After sunset and during critical hours, it uses a directional antenna with a six-tower array. The transmitter is on Route 491 in Stockholm, Texas. KBME (790 kHz) is a sports-talk AM radio station in the Houston, Texas metropolitan area. It is currently owned by iHeartMedia. Roy Mark Hofheinz (April 10, 1912 – November 22, 1982), popularly known as Judge Hofheinz or "The Judge", was a Texas state representative from 1935 to 1937 ( 44th legislature), county judge of Harris County, Texas from 1936 to 1944, and mayor of the city of Houston from 1953 to 1956. Early and personal life Hofheinz was born on April 10, 1912, in Beaumont, Texas. The Hofheinz family moved to Houston in 1924. He graduated from San Jacinto High School with highest honors as a champion debater and started work in 1928 at age 16 after his father died. A tower array is an arrangement of multiple radio towers which are mast radiators in a phased array. They were originally developed as ground-based tracking radars. Tower arrays can consist of free-standing or guyed towers or a mix of them. Tower arrays are used to constitute a directional antenna of a mediumwave or longwave radio station.
