History During the late 1940s, the ''Cedar Rapids Gazette'', then-owners of KGYM, KCRG (1600 AM), filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a TV station license. At the time, the FCC had a backlog of over 200 applications and had decided not to proceed with action on further applications until the backlogged requests could be filled. KWQC-TV (channel 6) is a television station licensed to Davenport, Iowa, United States, serving the Quad Cities area as an affiliate of NBC. Owned by Gray Media, the station maintains studios on Brady Street in downtown Davenport, and its transmitter is located in Bettendorf, Iowa. History KWQC first signed on the air on October 31, 1949, as WOC-TV. The station was founded by B. J. Palmer, founder of the Palmer College of Chiropractic (located directly across the street from the station's studios) along with WOC radio (WOC (AM), 1420 AM and 103.7 FM, now WLLR-FM). The WOC stations were also sister stations to WHO (AM), WHO-AM/KDRB, FM/WHO-TV, TV in Des Moines. KGYM (1600 AM) is a radio station broadcasting in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The station is owned by KZIA, Inc., which also owns KZIA (102.9 FM). It is Cedar Rapids' second-oldest radio station, after WMT. KGYM does not broadcast a digital HD signal on its AM frequency of 1600 kHz, but it can be heard in HD on KZIA-HD3. History KGYM signed on as KCRG on December 20, 1947, under the ownership of the Cedar Rapids Gazette Company (later known as Gazette Communications). ''The Gazette'' is a daily print newspaper published in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The newspaper is distributed throughout northeastern and east-central Iowa, including the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City metropolitan areas. It was formerly called ''The Cedar Rapids Gazette''. As of September 2019, ''The Gazette'' has a circulation of 32,616 for the daily edition and 37,860 for the Sunday edition. History The ''Evening Gazette'' was first published on January 10, 1883. KYOU-TV (channel 15) is a television station licensed to Ottumwa, Iowa, United States, serving Ottumwa and Kirksville, Missouri, as an affiliate of Fox, NBC and The CW Plus. The station is owned by Gray Media and maintains studios on West 2nd Street in Downtown Ottumwa; its transmitter is located east of Richland, Iowa. A translator, K30MG-D, offers additional coverage in the Kirksville area. Channel 15 went on the air in June 1986 as KOIA-TV.
