The ''Evening Gazette'' was first published on January 10, 1883. The paper was co-founded by Lucian H. Post and Elbridge T. Otis.
In March 1884, the paper was sold to Clarence Miller and Fred Faulkes. Their descendants would run the paper for the next century.
