Jydske Asyl
Jydske Asyl (Asylum of Jutland) is a listed building in Aarhus, Denmark constructed in 1850 and listed in the national Danish registry of protected buildings and places by the Danish Heritage Agency on 15 December 1997. It was built as a psychiatric hospital and functioned as such till the end of 2018. From 2019, the historic buildings and surroundings are being redeveloped as a new residential area. The new neighbourhood is known as Bindesbøll Byen and is planned to hold 1,200 residences in four sections at its completion. The project is designed by Danish architectural firm Arkitema Architects. History In 1852, the hospital ''Helbredsanstalten for Sindssyge i Nørrejylland'', colloquially known as ''Jydske Asyl'', was inaugurated in Risskov. Historicism or historism (german: Historismus) comprises artistic styles that draw their inspiration from recreating historic styles or imitating the work of historic artisans. Lucie-Smith, Edward. Hack Kampmann
Hack Kampmann (6 September 1856 – 27 June 1920) was a Danish architect, Royal Inspector of Listed State Buildings in Jutland and professor at the architecture department of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Marselisborg Palace in Aarhus, built between 1899 and 1902, is among his best known works. Biography His parents were Christian Peter Georg Kampmann, a parish priest, and Johanne Marie Schmidt. He entered the architecture department of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1873 and graduated in 1882, receiving the school's prestigious small gold medal ("Lille guldmedalje") for the design of a "Swimming bath in the Italian Renaissance style". Kampmann went on numerous study trips throughout Europe, paid for by several scholarships, including northern Italy, Greece and Sweden. Risskov Park
Risskov is the name of both a neighbourhood and a district in the city of Aarhus, Denmark. The district of Risskov is sometimes referred to as Vejlby-Risskov, as it is a merger of the neighbourhood of Risskov and the neighbourhood of Vejlby. The old neighbourhood of Risskov at the seaside of the Aarhus Bay, is one of the most affluent areas in Denmark. Etymology The name of Risskov literally means ''The Forest of Riis'', as described on the memorial stone marking the entrance to the area and derives from the small local forest of Riis Skov. Skejby
Skejby is a neighbourhood and former village in Aarhus, Denmark. The neighbourhood is part of the city district Aarhus N. The Skejby village was originally situated in the countryside north of Aarhus, overlooking the broad flat Egå Valley, but urban development has engulfed it, creating a new suburban neighbourhood by the same name. The old village is still distinctly visible, surrounding the old white village church. Archaeological excavations have revealed, that Skejby has been settled since the early Iron Ages (c. 500 BC), but finds from the Stone Age has also been unearthed. Frederik Ferdinand Friis
Frederik Ferdinand Friis (16 December 1793 - 18 March 1865) was a Danish architect, professor and Royal Building Inspector. His most important work is the Horsens State Prison. Early life and education Frederik Ferdinand Friis was born in Copenhagen on 16 December 1793 to master builder and fountain master Peder Friis and Henriette Johanne née West. He was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1814. He won small and large silver medals in 1815 and 1817, the small gold medal in 1821 for ''A military academy'', and finally the large gold medal for ''A custom house'' in 1825. He was articled to Peder Malling from 1822 to 1827 where he was responsible for the construction of the new main building for Sorø Academy after the old one had been destroyed in a fire.
