Junagadh State Railway
The Junagadh State Railway, also called Junagadh & Veraval Railway, was a metre gauge railway owned by the Junagadh State and initially worked by the Bhavnagar–Gondal–Junagadh–Porbandar Railway. From 1911 the JunSR worked itself as an independent system, owned by the Junagadh Durbar, until 1948 when it became part of the Saurashtra Railway. Rolling stock In 1936, the company owned 18 locomotives, 2 railcars, 99 coaches and 373 goods wagons. Classification It was labeled as a Class II railway according to Indian Railway Classification System of 1926. Kathiawar (), also known as Saurashtra, is a peninsula in the south-western Gujarat state in India, bordering the Arabian Sea and covering about . It is bounded by the Kutch district in the north, the Gulf of Kutch in the northwest, and by the Gulf of Khambhat in the east. In the northeast, it is connected to the rest of the state and borders on the low, fertile hinterland of Ahmedabad. It is crossed by two belts of hill country and is drained radially by nine rivers which have little natural flow aside from in monsoon months, thus dams have been built on some of these. Kathiawar ports have been flourishing centres of trade and commerce since at least the 16th century. It was formerly a state of India. Saurashtra Railway
Saurashtra Railway came into being in April, 1948 with the amalgamation of state railways like Bhavnagar State Railway, Gondal Railway, Porbandar Railway, Jamnagar & Dwarka Railway, Morvi Railway, Dhrangadhra Railway, Okhamandal State Railway, Junagadh State Railway, Baria State Railway, Rajpipla Railway etc. Upon the independence of India and the merger of various princely states into the Union of India, it became necessary to merge various state railways owned by these princely states into one. As the various states of Saurashtra and Kathiawar were merged to make Saurashtra State, the Government of India, similarly merged the various state railways of Gujarat into a separate entity called Saurashtra Railway. Junagadh
Junagadh () is the city and headquarters of Junagadh district in the Indian state of Gujarat. Located at the foot of the Girnar hills, southwest of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar (the state capital), it is the seventh largest city in the state. Junagadh State
The State of Junagadh or Junagarh was a princely state located in Gujarat, It was ruled by the Muslim Babi dynasty since 1654 by first Nawab of Junagarh, Nawab of Junagadh even within the Maratha Confederacy and later British India. which, after the partition of British India, Political integration of India, acceded to the Dominion of Pakistan.
