Julians Zagorskis
Julians Zagorskis (April 1903 – 1978) was a Latvian and Latgalian ceramicist. Biography Julians Zagorskis was born in Eisāgi village in the modern-day Rušona Parish, Russian Empire in 1903. He was born in a ceramicists family, his brother Augusts was also a well-known Latgalian ceramicist. He started to work as a ceramicist in 1918. Zagorskis, alongside Andrejs Paulāns, Polikarps Vilcāns and others, was one of the Latgalian ceramicists that was represented in 1957 Silajāņi ceramics exhibition in Rīga, organized by Jānis Pujāts. In later years, his works were selected for the exhibitions in Latvian SSR and abroad, in Moscow, Soviet Union. Zagorskis died in 1978. He is buried in the Eisāgi cemetery. Eisāgi is a village in the Rušona Parish of Preiļi Municipality in the Latgale region of Latvia. It is a home of the famous Latgalian ceramicists, such as Augusts Zagorskis. Jānis Pujāts (art Historian)
Jānis Pujāts (; 18 October 1925 – 19 July 1988) was a Latgalian art historian, known for the popularization of Latgalian pottery in the Soviet years. Author of books about Latgalian pottery. Biography Pujāts was born on 18 October 1925 in Gaigalava Parish (present-day Rēzekne Municipality), Latgale, Latvia. By his contemporaries, he is called ''the Godather of Latgalian ceramics'' for his efforts in the popularization of Latgalian pottery in the Soviet period. In the 50's, Pujāts started to travel around the Latgale and collect the information about local ceramicists for his publications. He organized exhibitions in Latvia and outside its borders that showcased the works of Latgalian potters such as Andrejs Paulāns, Polikarps Vilcāns, Polikarps Čerņavskis, Antons Ušpelis and others. The Latgale Culture and History Museum ( Latvian: Latgales Kultūrvēstures Muzejs) in Rēzekne, Latvia, is a history museum with a large collection of items, including Latgalian ceramics. It receives about 31,000 visitors per year. History Latgale Culture and History Museum was founded in 1959 as a branch of Ludza Local History Museum. In 1960, it was renamed to Rēzekne Local History Museum, but the current name to museum was given in 1990. Jasmuiža Manor is a manor in Aizkalne Parish, Preiļi Municipality in the historical region of Latgale, in Latvia, currently a writer's home museum dedicated to Rainis. History Construction of the wooden manor house near Aizkalne began in 1883 and was completed in 1891. Jānis Pliekšāns (11 September 1865 – 11 September 1929), known by his pseudonym Rainis, was a Latvian poet, playwright, translator, and politician. Rainis' works include the classic plays ''Uguns un nakts'' (''Fire and Night'', 1905) and ''Indulis un Ārija'' (''Indulis and Ārija'', 1911), and a highly regarded translation of Goethe's ''Faust''.
