Jasmuiža Manor
Jasmuiža Manor is a manor in Aizkalne Parish, Preiļi Municipality in the historical region of Latgale, in Latvia, currently a writer's home museum dedicated to Rainis. History Construction of the wooden manor house near Aizkalne began in 1883 and was completed in 1891. The building now houses a museum open on 16 August 1964, dedicated to the Latvian writer Rainis whose father, Krišjānis Pliekšāns, managed the surrounding estate. The parish was formed around the former Jāsmuiža Manor (Josmuiža, Jasmuiža, ) in the late 19th century as a part of Daugavpils county. Preiļi Municipality () is a municipality in Latgale, Latvia. The municipality was formed in 2000 by merging Aizkalne Parish, Preiļi Parish and Preiļi town. In 2009 it absorbed Pelēči Parish and Sauna Parish, too the administrative centre being Preiļi. The population in 2020 was 9,054. On 1 July 2021, Preiļi Municipality was enlarged when Riebiņi Municipality, Vārkava Municipality and Aglona Parish were merged into it. Latgale (; ; ; ; ; ; Belarusian Latin alphabet, Belarusian Latin: ''Łathalija''; ), also known as Latgalia or Latgallia, is one of the Historical Latvian Lands. It is the easternmost region of the country and lies north of the Daugava River. While most of Latvia is historically Lutheranism, Lutheran, Latgale is predominantly Catholic Church, Catholic: 65.3% according to a 2011 survey. Jānis Pliekšāns (11 September 1865 – 11 September 1929), known by his pseudonym Rainis, was a Latvian Poetry, poet, playwright, Translation, translator, and politics, politician. Rainis' works include the classic plays ''Uguns un nakts'' (''Fire and Night'', 1905) and ''Indulis un Ārija'' (''Indulis and Ārija'', 1911), and a highly regarded translation of Goethe, Goethe's ''Goethe's Faust, Faust''.
