Joseph Capel Smyth
Joseph Capel Smyth (February 1838 – 14 August 1914) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Smyth was born in 1830 in Inch, County Cork, Ireland to Jonas Smyth and his wife Mary (née Capel) and educated at Riordan's Classical School, Cloyne. When he was around 31 years of age he travelled to Queensland and, in conjunction with Thomas McIlwraith, managed several properties. He later became a Company director of the Darling Downs and Western Land Co and the Queensland Investment and Land Mortgage Co. Appointed to the Queensland Legislative Council in May 1882, Smyth served for twenty-eight years before resigning in July 1910. Smyth died in 1914 and was buried in Toowong Cemetery Toowong Cemetery is a heritage-listed cemetery on the corner of Frederick Street and Mt Coot-tha Road, Toowong, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Joseph Grigsby Smyth
Joseph Grigsby Smyth (February 25, 1847 – June 8, 1915) was a Texan politician who served in the Texas House from 1870-1873. Life Early years (1847-1870) Smyth was born on February 25, 1847. He married Ella E. Green on March 2, 1868. They had five children together, but only two made it past age 9. Ella died on September 13, 1883. Texas House (1870-1873) He was elected to the Texas House in February 1870 at the age of 22. Later years (1873-1915) He married Epsie Belle Miller on June 5, 1884. They had eight children together between September 1885 and February 1901. One of them died before turning 2. Joseph died June 8, 1915, at the age of 68. Joseph Hilton Smyth (4 December 1901 – 1972) was an American publisher and pulp author. He and two associates, Walker Gray Matheson and Irvine Harvey Williams, in connection with their publishing activities, were convicted in 1942 for acting as agents for the Japan, Japanese government without registering with the State Department. Publishing In 1940 he and his associates acquired a number of magazines, using $125,000 funds supplied by the Japanese government. The agreement was to publish Propaganda, pro-Japanese stories. After the three were convicted of being unregistered agents for the Japanese government, the titles ceased, though at least one ''(North American Review)'' was later revived. In the 1960s he was co-publisher of the ''Saturday Review of Literature''.
