Joniškėlis Manor is a former residential manor in Joniškėlis. It is one of the biggest buildings and parks ensemble in Zemgale. The manor grounds are currently used by Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture. Joniškėlis () is a list of cities in Lithuania, city in the Pasvalys district municipality, Lithuania. It is located west of Pasvalys. In the north of the road 150 (Siauliai-Pakruojis-Pasvalys). Name Versions of the city's name in other languages include Polish language, Polish: ''Johaniszkiele'', Russian language, Russian: Иоганишкели ''Ioganishkeli'', Yiddish: יאַנישקעל ''Yonishkel''. History The Joniškėlis Manor, Joniškėlis estate, which belonged to ''Karpis'' family in known from the 17th century. In 1684 first wooden church was built. The town started to establish itself in the second half of 17th century. In 1736 King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Augustus III of Poland, Augustus III granted rights to organize market in the town. Zemgale
Semigallia is one of the Historical Latvian Lands located to the south of the Daugava and to the north of the Saule region of Samogitia. The territory is split between Latvia and Lithuania, previously inhabited by the Semigallian Baltic tribe. They are noted for their long resistance (1219–1290) against the German crusaders and Teutonic Knights during the Northern Crusades. Semigallians had close linguistic and cultural ties with Samogitians. Name The name of Semigallia appears in sources such as ''Seimgala'', ''Zimgola'' and ''Sem'' 'e'''gallen''. The -gal element means 'border' or 'end', while the first syllable corresponds to ''ziem'' ('north').
