Johnny Matthews (rugby Union)
Johnny Matthews (born 5 July 1993) is a Scotland 'A' international rugby union player who plays for Glasgow Warriors. His usual position is at the Hooker position. Rugby Union career Amateur career Matthews played for Sedgley Park in the season 2016–17. He scored 26 tries in 29 appearances. While with Yorkshire Carnegie he played for Otley. On moving to Scotland in 2017 Matthews played for Boroughmuir. He finished the Scottish Premiership's top try scorer for 2018–19 season. Professional career From Sedgley Park, Matthews moved to Yorkshire Carnegie. He then played for Sale Jets, the Sale Sharks 2XV. Matthews was a back-up player for Edinburgh. It was announced on 6 September that Matthews had signed a professional contract with Glasgow Warriors for short-term cover over the 2019 Rugby World Cup; when Glasgow lose around 15 of their players to the national squads involved in the tournament. Boroughmuir RFC is a rugby union football club in the Scottish Rugby Union. The club's home ground is Meggetland, in southwest Edinburgh and the club plays in the , where they are known as the Boroughmuir Bears. Founded in 1919 and admitted to the SRU in 1939, it was originally restricted to former pupils of Boroughmuir High School. The badge is derived from Boroughmuir High School and they acquired it in 1913. Although it has lost that direct connection, the home ground and navy blue/emerald colours are unchanged. The club won the Scottish unofficial club rugby championship in the 1954–55 and 1972–73 seasons. Watsonian Football Club is a rugby union club based in Edinburgh and part of the Scottish Rugby Union. The club is connected with George Watson's College as a club for former pupils, and changed its policy in the 1980s to be a fully open club, welcoming players of all abilities regardless of whether they attended the school or not.
