John Waiko
John Dademo Waiko (born 8 August 1945) is a Papua New Guinean historian, anthropologist, playwright and politician. Education He obtained a PhD in Social Sciences from the Australian National University, thus becoming the first Papua New Guinean to earn a PhD of any kind. Career In 1986, he was the first Papua New Guinean to be appointed Professor, and became head of the History department at the University of Papua New Guinea. He has published a number of articles on the history, culture and politics of his country. His book ''A Short History of Papua New Guinea'' was first published in 1993. Oro Province, Papua New Guinea
Oro Province, formerly (and officially still) Northern Province, is a coastal province of Papua New Guinea. The provincial capital is Popondetta. The province covers 22,800 km2, and has 176,206 inhabitants (2011 census). The province shares land borders with Morobe Province to the northwest, Central Province to the west and south, and Milne Bay Province to the southeast. The province is located within the Papuan Peninsula. Oro is the only province in which the Anglican Church is the major religious denomination. Oil palm is the principal primary industry. John Pundari
Sir John Pundari (born 7 January 1967) is a Papua New Guinean politician. He has been Speaker of the National Parliament (1997–1999), Deputy Prime Minister (1999), Minister for Foreign Affairs (2001), and currently serving as the Minister of Finance and Rural Development since 20 December 2020. First elected to Parliament in the 1992 general election, as MP for Kompiam-Ambum, he was elected Speaker after retaining his seat in the 1997 election. He founded the Advance Papua New Guinea Party in May 1999, with twenty-two MPs, announcing his intention to challenge for the premiership. He accused Prime Minister Bill Skate's government of persistent political interference in administrative processes, including police investigations, and of a general lack of ethics. Anne Dickson-Waiko
Anne Dickson-Waiko (1950–2018) was an academic from Papua New Guinea (PNG) who taught history and pioneered the teaching of gender studies in the country. Early life Anne Nealibo Dickson-Waiko's family came from Milne Bay Province in PNG, but she was born in the capital of Port Moresby on 15 May 1950, where her father was working as an advisor to the administrator of the Territory of Papua. She was the fourth of five children. Her parents were both educated at the mission school on Kwato Island in Milne Bay Province, where her older brother and sisters were born. When she was seven, she was sent to Kwato as a boarder. From a young age she showed signs of considerable intelligence, topping her year in most grades and being the highest-ranking student in the school in 1962. She then transferred to Port Moresby High School, which was primarily a school for children of the Australian expatriate community.
