John W. Sadler
John W. Sadler (born July 30, 1956) is an American horse trainer in the sport of Thoroughbred horse racing. He currently has over 2,600 race wins, including the 2018 Breeders' Cup Classic with Accelerate, who was subsequently named American Horse of the Year. He has won multiple training titles at Santa Anita Park, Del Mar and the now defunct Hollywood Park. Sadler trained Flightline, the winner of the 2022 Breeders' Cup Classic. Background Sadler was born on July 30, 1956, in Long Beach, California. He attended the University of Oregon before returning to Southern California to work as a veterinary assistant. He took out his trainer's license in 1978. He currently resides in Pasadena. Racing career Sadler got his first win in 1979 at Golden Gate Fields racetrack in the San Francisco Bay Area. Malibu Stakes
The Malibu Stakes is a race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses of either gender held each December at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The race is at a distance of seven furlongs and is the first leg of Santa Anita Park's Strub Series. A Grade I event currently with a $300,000 purse, it has attracted some of America's best horses following the Breeders' Cup. Inaugurated in 1952 as the Malibu Sequet Stakes, its name was changed to the present style in 1958. There was a Malibu Stakes run in January and December of the same year in 1955, 1960, 1966, and 1984. It was run in two divisions in 1972, 1975, 1977, 1981, and 1984. The American Oaks is a Grade I American thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old fillies over a distance of one and one-quarter miles on the turf held annually in late December Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, USA. San Antonio Handicap
The Laffit Pincay Jr. Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. Run at miles on the dirt, the race is for horses aged three and upward and carries a purse of $200,000. The race was inaugurated in 1935 as the San Antonio Handicap. It has been a Grade II event since 1990, and was changed from handicap to allowance conditions in 2011. The race was traditionally run in February and was frequently used as a prep race for the Santa Anita Handicap.
