John Townsend (born June 1, 1952) is an American Christian self-help author, business consultant, and psychologist. Biography Townsend holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with honors from North Carolina State University, a Master of Theology degree with honors from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Philosophy, PhD degree in clinical psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University. Townsend co-founded (with Henry Cloud) the Minirth-Meier Clinic West and served as its clinical co-director for ten years. The clinic operated treatment centers in 35 cities in the western United States. In 2015, Townsend also founded the Townsend Institute for Leadership and Counseling, providing graduate training in Organizational Leadership, Executive Coaching and Counseling, based at Concordia University Irvine in California. The Goddard and Townsend families of Newport lend their name to an extensive body of New England furniture associated with Newport, Rhode Island in the second half of the 18th century. Family of artisans The Townsend and Goddard families were two Quaker families that were part of a large cabinetmaking community centered in The Point neighborhood of Newport, a predominantly Quaker neighborhood. The founders of this cabinetmaking dynasty immigrated to Newport from other New England towns. The Sanford-Townsend Band was a rock and roll band who scored a hit single in 1977 with "Smoke from a Distant Fire". History The Sanford-Townsend Band featured keyboardists Ed Sanford (from Montgomery, Alabama) and Johnny Townsend (from Tuscaloosa, Alabama), who previously worked together in a Tuscaloosa-based band called The Heart (not to be confused with the band Heart fronted by Ann and Nancy Wilson from Seattle/Vancouver). After reuniting in Los Angeles, Sanford and Townsend signed a publishing deal with Chappell Music and began writing songs, most notably "Peacemaker" for Loggins and Messina, which was co-written by Sanford and Townsend with Kenny Loggins. John Selby Townsend (August 24, 1824 – April 23, 1892) was an American judge and politician. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Townsend was born on August 24, 1824, in Morganfield, Kentucky to James Townsend a planter and large slaveowner. When Townsend was age four, his father freed all his slaves and moved with his family to Indiana. Townsend studied at Asbury University (now DePauw University) and, subsequently, taught himself law, passing the bar exam in Monroe County, Iowa. Sir John Sealy Edward Townsend (; 7 June 1868 – 16 February 1957) was an Irish physicist who conducted various studies concerning the electrical conduction of gases (concerning the kinetics of electrons and ions) and directly measured the electric charge. John Richard Townsend FRSA (1930 – 2013) was a painter who was born in Nottingham. His father was Art Director at Thomas Forman & Sons printers. Townsend left school aged 14 and studied art at Nottingham School of Art. He was taught by the Nottinghamshire painter Arthur Spooner. During the 1950s and 1960s, Townsend was commissioned internationally for oil painting portraits of celebrities and members of the aristocracy. In 1970 Townsend was commissioned by Nottingham businessman Lewis Henry Colton to paint a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait was presented as a gift to the city by Lew Colton. It hangs in the dining room of Nottingham Council House. Townsend exhibited through the Royal Academy in London. Princess Anne and the Duchess of Kent have both bought works by Townsend. John Kirk Townsend (August 10, 1809 – February 6, 1851) was an American natural history, naturalist, ornithologist and collector. Townsend was a Quaker born in Philadelphia, the son of Charles Townsend and Priscilla Kirk. He attended Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania and was trained as a physician and pharmacist. He developed an interest in natural history in general and bird collecting in particular. In 1833, he was invited by the botanist Thomas Nuttall to join him on Nathaniel Jarvis Wyeth's second expedition across the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. Townsend collected a number of animals new to science. Johnny Townsend (born February 14, 1995) is an American former professional football punter. He played college football at Florida. He was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft. His younger brother Tommy is a punter on the Houston Texans active roster. Early life Townsend played at William R. Boone High School in Orlando. He and his brother were coached by kicking guru, Toby Peabody, though neither were punters under his tutelage. He was initially recruited by Ohio State.
