John Eisele
John Eisele (''John Lincoln Eisele;'' January 18, 1884 – March 30, 1933) was an American athlete. He won the silver medal in the 3 mile team race and bronze medal in the 3,200 meters steeplechase at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Eisele was the only runner in his first round heat to finish, moving to the final after running the first round in 11:13.6. He kept pace with the leader, Arthur Russell of Great Britain and Ireland, from about the halfway mark to the bell. Archie Robertson, also of Britain, passed him then. Eisele finished third, about twenty-five yards behind the British pair. His time was 11:00.8. He also won a silver medal in the 3 miles team race together with George Bonhag and Herbert Trube. An athlete is most commonly a person who competes in one or more sports involving physical strength, speed, power, or endurance. Sometimes, the word "athlete" is used to refer specifically to sport of athletics competitors, i.e. including track and field and marathon runners but excluding e.g. swimmers, footballers or basketball players. However, in other contexts (mainly in the United States) it is used to refer to all athletics (physical culture) participants of any sport. Herbert Trube
Herbert Lawrence Trube (September 3, 1886 – July 13, 1959) was an American athlete who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics. He competed for the United States in the 1908 Summer Olympics held in London, Great Britain in the 3 mile team, where he won the silver medal with his teammates John Eisele and George Bonhag. He also participated in the five miles competition and was eliminated in the first round after being unable to finish his run. Trube graduated from Cornell University in 1908, where he was also a member of the Quill and Dagger Quill and Dagger is a senior honor society at Cornell University, founded in 1893.
