John Doyle (drummer)
John Doyle (born 6 May 1959 in Manchester, England) is an English drummer, who was a member of new wave bands like Magazine and The Armoury Show. He reunited with Magazine for a tour in February 2009. Biography While at William Hulme's Grammar School, with friends on the stage staff formed a band. He then played with various local Manchester bands, including Idiot Rouge, alongside Neil Cossar, later of power pop band The Cheaters, and Nick Simpson, later frontman of 23 Jewels. In the last gig with Idiot Rouge, at Manchester Polytechnic, guitarist John McGeoch, who was attending, asked Doyle if he wanted to audition for his band, Magazine. Doyle joined the band in October 1978, replaced Speedometors' Paul Spencer who had completed their tour across Europe, beginning in Munich, during their ''Real Life'' debut album tour. ''Real Life'' is the debut studio album by English post-punk band Magazine. It was released in June 1978 by record label Virgin. The album includes the band's debut single " Shot by Both Sides", and was also preceded by the non-album single " Touch and Go", a song from the album's recording sessions. ''Real Life'' has received critical acclaim and is considered a pioneering post-punk album. It has also been described as new wave and art rock. Background and recording The album was written over the preceding year by the band, with Howard Devoto providing all of the lyrics. ''Play'' is the first live album by English post-punk/ new wave band Magazine. It was released in December 1980 by Virgin Records (International) and in April 1981 by I.R.S. Records (US). It peaked at No. 69 on the UK Album Chart. It was Magazine's sixth 1980 release. Content The live album consisted of a recording of the group's performance at Melbourne Festival Hall in Australia on 6 September 1980. The performance was part of a world tour in support of the group's third studio album, ''The Correct Use of Soap'', released earlier that year. The majority of the album is composed of songs from the first and third studio albums. Dave Formula (born David Tomlinson 11 August 1946, Whalley Range, Manchester in England), is an English keyboardist and film-soundtrack composer from Manchester, who played with the post-punk bands Magazine and Visage during the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s and in the "world music" band The Angel Brothers. Biography Early years and St. Louis Union Formula lived his early youth in Whalley Range, Manchester. He worked under the name of David Tomlinson and achieved some success back in the mid-sixties with the R&B blues/soul band St. Louis Union, including appearances on ''Top of the Pops'' Thank Your Lucky Stars and in the film '' The Ghost Goes Gear'' (also featuring The Spencer Davis Group). Moss Side Story
''Moss Side Story'' is the debut solo album of British musician Barry Adamson released in 1989. The album is a concept album, a soundtrack album to a non-existent crime film. The music is almost completely instrumental except for occasional screams, vocal samples and a choir. To achieve the soundtrack effect, the song titles are descriptive of a film noir plot outline. The inner sleeve came with a short story written by Dave Graney which added to the concept. This complemented outer sleeve which displays the tag line: "In a black and white world, murder brings a touch of colour..." In a 2017 interview, Adamson reported that he recorded ''Moss Side Story'' due to his fascination with film music and as "a calling card osend it around to people" in hopes of being hired to write music for actual films. ''The Impossible'' is the only solo album of English singer Ken Lockie, after dissolving his band, Cowboys International, in 1980. Kenneth Lockie (born 1956) is an English people, English singer-songwriter and producer, best known as the principle songwriter and vocalist of English New wave music, new wave band Cowboys International, as well as a collaborator with synth-pop group Dominatrix_(band), Dominatrix and John Lydon of Public Image Ltd. Early life and education He was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1956 as Peter Dellow and changed his name to Ken Lockie by Deed poll on 8 January 1980.
