Joesjö
Joesjö (or Jovattnet) is a village in Storuman Municipality in Västerbotten County in Sweden. It lies about from Tärnaby and Hemavan. To get there from Tärnaby one takes the European route E12 highway (Blue Road) west. After one turns off towards Joesjö and Hattfjelldal (on Krutfjällsvägen, road 1116). From there it is to Joesjö. In Joesjö there is, amongst other things, the food store Tärna Vilt AB. Joesjö was previously (up to the 1950s) a centre for trade between people from Midt-Helgeland on the Norwegian border and their neighbouring Swedes. From Joesjö it is barely to the nearest Norwegian hamlet. Ingemar Stenmark
Jan Ingemar Stenmark (; born 18 March 1956) is a Swedish former FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, World Cup Alpine skiing, alpine ski racer. He is regarded as a legendary skier and one of the most prominent Swedish athletes ever, having won several Olympic medals and world cups during his career. When he retired in 1989, he held the record for the greatest number of international race wins, a record that was only broken in 2023 by Mikaela Shiffrin and remains unbroken amongst men. Storuman Municipality
Storuman Municipality (; ; ) is a municipalities of Sweden, municipality in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden. Its administrative centre, seat is located in Storuman. The parish Stensele was created as late as 1822. It was, together with the parish Tärna, made into a municipality in 1863. In 1903 Tärna was detached to form a municipality of its own. The local government reform of 1971 saw the reunification of Stensele and Tärnaby municipalities, thus forming Storuman Municipality with the name taken from its largest town. Tärnaby, a small village in the municipality, has fostered the internationally famous alpine skiing, alpine skiers Ingemar Stenmark, Stig Strand and Anja Pärson. Tärnaby is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality situated in Storuman Municipality, Lapland (Sweden), Lapland, Västerbotten County, Sweden with 482 inhabitants in 2010. Hemavan
Hemavan ( South Sami: Bïerke) is a locality situated in Storuman Municipality, Västerbotten County ( Lapland), Sweden with 222 inhabitants in 2010. It is located on European route E12. During the winter months Hemavan caters to many tourists as a ski resort, mainly from Sweden and the neighbouring countries of Norway and Finland. Hemavan also has the Hemavan Airport, with one flight per day 6 days of the week to and from Stockholm-Arlanda. Hemavan is the starting point of the Kungsleden trail. History The area was originally named Björkfors in 1834, named by the Sámi Enar Andersson, who later sold the village to another settler family that had come from Stensele parish. European Route E12
European route E12 is a road that is part of the International E-road network. It begins in Mo i Rana, Norway, transverses Sweden and ends in Helsinki, Finland, with a ferry line between Sweden and Finland. The part within Finland is Finnish national highway 3. The road is about 910 km (570 mi) in length. The road follows the route: Mo i Rana – Storuman, Sweden – Lycksele, Sweden – Umeå, Sweden – Holmsund, Sweden – ''(ferry)'' – Vaasa, Finland – Tampere, Finland – Hämeenlinna, Finland – Helsinki. The ferry service between Holmsund and Vaasa is operated by Wasa Line using the M/S '' Aurora Botnia'', with up to two daily departures in each direction taking about three and a half hours.
