Jodie Ounsley
Jodie Ounsley (born 17 January 2001) is an English former rugby union player who played for Premier 15s side Exeter Chiefs Women as a winger. In 2019 she became the first deaf female rugby player to play for a senior England side and the world's first-ever deaf female rugby sevens international. She is also a former British Brazilian jiu jitsu champion. She also appeared as "Fury" in the 2024 BBC One reboot of Gladiators and has worked as an interviewer for Channel 4's coverage of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Early life From Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, Ounsley was born prematurely and needed medication which subsequently impacted her hearing and became profoundly deaf. She had a cochlear implant as a toddler, becoming the youngest person in the country to have the procedure. Dewsbury
Dewsbury is a minster and market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It lies on the River Calder and on an arm of the Calder and Hebble Navigation waterway. Jiu-jitsu
Jujutsu ( ; ja, link=no, 柔術 , ), also known as jiu-jitsu and ju-jitsu, is a family of Japanese martial arts and a system of close combat (unarmed or with a minor weapon) that can be used in a defensive or offensive manner to kill or subdue one or more weaponless or armed and armored opponents. Jiu-jitsu dates back to the 1530s and was coined by Hisamori Tenenouchi when he officially established the first jiu-jitsu school in Japan. Sheli Jane McCoy (born 10 July 1988) is a Scottish CrossFit athlete, weightlifter and television personality, who set three Scottish weightlifting records in 2023. She appears as "Sabre" on British TV endurance sports game show ''Gladiators'', in which she has become one of the key characters for the series' success. Early life Sheli Jane McCoy was born on 10 July 1988 in Windsor, Berkshire, and graduated with a master's degree from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, before moving and living in the Menzieshill area of Dundee, Scotland. Career McCoy has competed in five British Weightlifting Championships events and CrossFit championships, and became Scottish champion in both sports. Saracens Women ( /ˈsærəsənz/) are a women's rugby union club based in Hendon, London, England. The World Rugby Men's Sevens Series is an annual series of international rugby sevens tournaments run by World Rugby featuring national sevens teams. Organised for the first time in the 1999–2000 season as the IRB World Sevens Series, the competition was formed to promote an elite-level of international rugby sevens and develop the game into a viable commercial product. The competition has been sponsored by banking group HSBC since 2014. The season's circuit consists of 10 tournaments that generally begin in November or December and last until May. Scrum Cap
The scrum cap is a form of headgear used by rugby players to protect the ears in the scrum, which can otherwise suffer injuries leading to the condition commonly known as cauliflower ears. Although originally designed for forwards they are now worn by players of all positions, even those who do not play in the scrum. A simpler alternative to a cap, or a head-cap and used by many players, is a thin strip of foam or cloth and electrical tape wrapped around the ears like a head band.
