Joannes Bochius
Joannes Bochius, sometimes Jan Boghe or Jean Boch (1555–1609) was a civic officeholder and Neo-Latin poet in the city of Antwerp. Life Born in Brussels in 1555, Bochius studied law at Leuven University and then travelled to Rome, where he served in the household of the later Cardinal Radzivil and studied under Robert Bellarmine. After leaving Rome he made a tour of northern Europe, almost losing his feet to frostbite in Moscow and being attacked and left for dead by brigands in Lithuania. After the Fall of Antwerp he was appointed secretary to the city, holding the office until his death in 1609. Works Bochius wrote Latin celebrations of the restoration of Habsburg authority in Antwerp by Alexander Farnese, Duke of Parma and of the career of Christopher Plantin. Alexander Farnese, Duke Of Parma
Alexander Farnese ( it, Alessandro Farnese, es, Alejandro Farnesio; 27 August 1545 – 3 December 1592) was an Italian noble and condottiero and later a general of the Spanish army, who was Duke of Parma, Piacenza and Castro from 1586 to 1592, as well as Governor of the Spanish Netherlands from 1578 to 1592. Thanks to a steady influx of troops from Spain, during 1581–1587 Farnese captured more than thirty towns in the south (now Belgium) and returned them to the control of Catholic Spain. During the French Wars of Religion he relieved Paris for the Catholics. Jan Moretus, also John Moerentorf or Joannes Moretus (2 May 1543 – 22 September 1610), was a Flemish printer who was an apprentice for Christophe Plantin, married his daughter, and later inherited the printing business on his father-in-law's death. Biography Moretus was born in Antwerp, the son of satin-weaver Jacob Mourentorf and Adriana Gras, daughter of Pieter Gras, a silk-weaver from Milan. He began working for publisher Christophe Plantin in 1557, when he was 14 years of age. He worked in Venice, starting around 1562 to 1563, and then returned to Plantin's business in Antwerp by 1565. In 1570, he married Martina Plantin, the second daughter of the publisher.
