Jim Gellatly
Jim Gellatly is a Scottish radio presenter and DJ. He presented Drivetime on XFM Scotland until its closure. Currently he hosts Afternoons on BFBS Radio in Germany, and does a weekly New Music showcase on Amazing Radio. Biography Educated at the private High School of Dundee and Strathallan School, Gellatly is married to Candy and has three children. His late father, Ian Gellatly, was Chairman of Dundee F.C. and President of the Scottish Football League, while his grandfather was chairman of the club when they won the Scottish League Championship in 1961–62. Gellatly began as a volunteer for Moray Firth Radio in Inverness in the late 80s, moving to Northsound Radio in Aberdeen in the early 90s. Glasvegas are a Scottish indie rock band from Glasgow. The band consists of James Allan (musician), James Allan (vocals), Rab Allan (lead guitar) and Paul Donoghue (bass guitar), with Swedish drummer Jonna Löfgren joining the group in 2010 until her departure in 2020. Their platinum-selling debut album ''Glasvegas (album), Glasvegas'' released in September 2008 was well received by critics and reached No. 2 in the UK Albums Chart. Bauer Media Audio UK is a UK-based radio division of Bauer Media Group owning brands; Absolute Radio, Greatest Hits Radio, Jazz FM, Hits Radio, KISS, Planet Rock, Magic, Kerrang! Clyde 1 is an Independent Local Radio station based in Glasgow, Scotland, owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Glasgow and West Central Scotland. As of September 2024, the station has a weekly audience of 747,000 listeners according to RAJAR. BBC Radio Scotland is a Scottish national radio network owned and operated by BBC Scotland, a division of the BBC. It broadcasts a wide variety of programmes. John Peel
John Robert Parker Ravenscroft (30 August 1939 – 25 October 2004), better known as John Peel, was an English radio presenter and journalist. He was the longest-serving of the original disc jockeys on BBC Radio 1, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004. Peel was one of the first broadcasters to play psychedelic rock and progressive rock records on British radio. He is widely acknowledged for promoting artists of many genres, including pop, dub reggae, punk rock and post-punk, electronic music and dance music, indie rock, extreme metal and British hip hop. The Radio Academy is a registered charity dedicated to "the encouragement, recognition and promotion of excellence in UK broadcasting and audio production". It was formed in 1983 and is run via a board of trustees, with a chair and a deputy chair, and a managing director. Barrowland
The Barrowland Ballroom (also known as ''Barrowland'' and ''The Barras'') is an entertainment venue, dance hall and music venue located in the Calton district in Glasgow, Scotland. A prominent feature of the music scene in Glasgow, the venue has appeared in various elements of popular culture, notably tracks by Amy Macdonald and Simple Minds. History The original building opened in 1934 in a mercantile area east of Glasgow's city centre, built by Maggie McIver, the "Barras Queen". The area and the ballroom are named after the Glasgow Barrowland market. The building was completely rebuilt after being largely destroyed by fire in 1958, and reopened on 24 December 1960. Amy Elizabeth Macdonald (born 25 August 1987) is a Scottish singer-songwriter. Sergeant were a Scottish four-piece indie rock band from Glenrothes in Fife. In 2007, they signed a contract with Mercury Records and played both the T in the Park and Glastonbury festivals that year.
