Jetline (roller Coaster)
Jetline is a roller coaster at Gröna Lund in Stockholm, Sweden. It has gained worldwide recognition for its curved lift hill, an anomaly amongst roller coasters. It opened in April 1988 as a clone of the Knightmare roller coaster at Camelot Theme Park, England. In 1997 it was modified by Maurer Söhne to have a longer and steeper first drop, adding a tunnel at the bottom of the first drop. Knightmare pulled 5 '' g'' while Jetline pulls a more reserved maximum of 4.5 ''g''. Ride experience The ride starts with a curved lift hill that carries the ride vehicle to a height of . A right turn leads in to the first drop. The drop leads in to a short tunnel and a turn back towards the station and the rest of the ride. Werner Stengel
Werner Stengel (born 22 August 1936, in Bochum) is a German roller coaster designer and engineer. Stengel is the founder of Stengel Engineering, also known as Ingenieurbüro Stengel GmbH (or Ingenieurbuero Stengel GmbH). Stengel first worked on amusement park rides in collaboration with Anton Schwarzkopf in 1963. He established his own company, Stengel Engineering, in 1965. His collaboration with Schwarzkopf was responsible for many innovations in roller coaster design, including in 1976 the first modern "vertical" looping coaster, ''Revolution'', at Six Flags Magic Mountain. ( Arrow Dynamics had debuted the first modern inversion, the corkscrew, a year earlier at Knott's Berry Farm). Roller Coaster
A roller coaster, or rollercoaster, is a type of amusement ride that employs a form of elevated railroad track designed with tight turns, steep slopes, and sometimes inversions. Passengers ride along the track in open cars, and the rides are often found in amusement parks and theme parks around the world. LaMarcus Adna Thompson obtained one of the first known patents for a roller coaster design in 1885, related to the Switchback Railway that opened a year earlier at Coney Island. The track in a coaster design does not necessarily have to be a complete circuit, as shuttle roller coasters demonstrate. Gröna Lund
Gröna Lund (; "Green Grove"), or colloquially ''Grönan'' (), is an amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden. Located on the seaward side of Djurgården Island, it is relatively small compared to other amusement parks, mainly because of its central location, which limits expansion. The amusement park has over 30 attractions and is a popular venue for concerts in the summer. It was founded in 1883 by James Schultheiss. History Gröna Lund's roots are in the 1880s, making it Sweden's oldest amusement park. However the area has been used for similar purposes since the early 18th century. Knightmare (roller Coaster)
Knightmare was a custom roller coaster at the now defunct Camelot Theme Park in Chorley, Lancashire, United Kingdom. It was built by Zierer and designed by Anton Schwarzkopf. History It was originally built in 1987 for a theme park in Kobe, Japan called ''Portopialand'' (now defunct) under the name ''BMRX'/'Bavarian Mountain Railroad'', and was a dark indoor ride with a huge mountain themed structure surrounding it. After Portopialand closed in March 2006, the roller coaster was acquired by Camelot theme park and was dismantled and shipped to the United Kingdom. It cost the park £3 million to build the roller coaster. The track and trains arrived at Camelot at the end of 2006, without the mountain structure that initially enclosed it. Camelot Theme Park
Camelot Theme Park was a resort and theme park located in the English county of Lancashire. The park's theme was the well-known legend of Camelot, and the park decor incorporated pseudo- medieval elements. It was located on a site near the village of Charnock Richard, west of Chorley. The site was owned by The Story Group and was operated by Knights Leisure. The park featured many rides, taking a target audience of families and younger children; however, the park also boasted numerous thrill rides and roller coasters, including Whirlwind (a Maurer Söhne spinning coaster), Knightmare and Excalibur. On 4 November 2012, Knight’s Leisure announced that they would not be reopening for the season of 2013. Maurer AG, formerly known as Maurer Söhne GmbH & Co. KG, is a steel construction company and roller coaster manufacturer. Founded in 1876 in Munich, Germany, the company has built many styles of steel buildings, ranging from bridges, industrial buildings, and even art structures. While known for building a variety of wild mouse coasters, its subsidiary Maurer Rides GmbH has branched out into spinning, looping, and launching coasters. The company also produces a free-fall tower ride. On December 15, 2014, the company changed its name to Maurer AG. It has grown to feature statistics and pictures of over 10,000 roller coasters from around the world. Publications that have mentioned RCDB include ''The New York Times'', ''Los Angeles Times'', ''Toledo Blade'', ''Orlando Sentinel'', ''Time'', ''Forbes'', ''Mail & Guardian'', and ''Chicago Sun-Times''. Alvey has ridden over 1400 coasters around the world, and has documented his travels and those of others on his website Theme Park Review. He has been featured on related documentaries for Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, and TLC. Career Alvey is best known as a roller coaster reviewer and aficionado. His Theme Park Review website was started in 1996 and became a site for coaster videos, photos, forums, and information about theme parks and roller coasters.
