Jesse Puts
Jesse Puts (; born 1 August 1994) is a Dutch competitive swimmer who specializes in freestyle. He is the 2016 world champion in the 50 meter freestyle (short course). He holds the Dutch records in this event in both long course and short course, as well as in the 100 meter freestyle (short course). Career At his international debut during the 2014 European Championships in Berlin, Puts finished eighth on the 50 meter backstroke. In the 50 meter freestyle, Puts swam a 23.31 finishing 6th in his heat. He placed 43rd overall during the prelims, and did not qualify for the semifinals. At the 2015 European Short Course Swimming Championships held in Netanya, he finished 8th in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 21.49. Freestyle Swimming
Freestyle is a category of Swimming (sport), swimming competition, defined by the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in which competitors are subject to a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Freestyle races are the most common of all swimming competitions, with distances beginning with 50 meters (50 yards) and reaching 1500 meters (1650 yards), also known as the mile. The term 'freestyle stroke' is sometimes used as a synonym for 'front crawl', as front crawl is the fastest surface swimming stroke. It is now the most common stroke used in freestyle competitions. The first Olympics held open water swimming events, but after a few Olympics, closed water swimming was introduced. The front crawl or freestyle was the first event that was introduced. European Short Course Swimming Championships
The European Short Course Swimming Championships (variously referred to informally as the "Short Course Europeans" or "European 25m Championships") are a swimming meet, organized by LEN. The meet features swimmers from Europe, competing in events in a short course (25-meter) pool. The meet has traditionally been held in the beginning of December. Annual until 2013, the event now occurs in odd years. History The Championships were first held in 1996, and were preceded by the "European Sprint Swimming Championships" which were held from 1991–1994. The ''Sprint'' meet featured 14 events: the 50s of the strokes, the 100 Individual Medley, and 4x50 relays (free and medley). Kyle Stolk
Kyle Stolk (born 28 June 1996) is a Dutch competitive swimmer who specializes in freestyle events. He won a silver medal in the boys' 200 m freestyle at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, and finished seventh as a member of the Dutch swimming squad in the 4×200 m freestyle relay at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Stolk currently trains for the swimming league at PSV Eindhoven, under the tutelage of his coach and three-time Olympian Marcel Wouda. Stolk launched into the global scene as a junior swimmer at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing. There, he nearly charged to the front at the final stretch of the boys' 200 m freestyle, before fading to a runner-up finish in 1:48.59, trailing the Italian swimmer Nicolangelo di Fabio by a small fraction of a second. Pieter Cornelis Martijn van den Hoogenband (; born 14 March 1978) is a Dutch retired swimmer. He is a triple Olympic champion and former world record holder. Early life Born in Maastricht, Limburg, he is the son of Cees-Rein van den Hoogenband and Astrid Verver, a former Dutch 800 m freestyle silver medalist at the European Junior Championships. He has a younger brother. He grew up in Geldrop, where he swam for PSV Eindhoven. His father is a team doctor with the professional football team of the same club. Ben Schwietert (born 16 February 1997) is a Dutch competitive swimmer who specializes in freestyle. Career Schwietert participated in his first international championships at the 2015 European Short Course Championships in Netanya, Israel. He was eliminated in the heats of the 50, 100, and 200 meter freestyle. In the 4×50 m mixed freestyle relay, he won the bronze medal together with Jesse Puts, Inge Dekker, and Ranomi Kromowidjojo. At the 2016 European Aquatics Championships in London, he won the gold medal in the 4 × 100 m mixed freestyle relay together with Sebastiaan Verschuren, Maud van der Meer, and Kromowidjojo. Maarten Brzoskowski (born 19 September 1995) is a Dutch competitive swimmer of Polish origin who specializes in freestyle. He holds the Dutch records in both the long course and short course 400 meter freestyle events. His father's grandfather emigrated during World War I from Poland to the Netherlands. Career Brzoskowski participated in his first international championships at the 2014 European Aquatics Championships in Berlin, swimming the 400, 800, and 1500 meter freestyle events. He qualified for the 800 meter and 1500 meter freestyle at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia, where he finished 16th and 15th in the heats. Netanya (also known as Natanya, he, נְתַנְיָה) is a city in the Northern Central District of Israel, and is the capital of the surrounding Sharon plain. Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming each stroke requires a set of specific techniques; in competition, there are distinct regulations concerning the acceptable form for each individual stroke.
