Jeannie Piersol is a singer who was active in the 1960s. She was part of what is referred to as the San Francisco scene. Background Jeannie Piersol was born Jeannie Gross and grew up in Mountain View. It was in the Bay area that she met her future husband her future husband Bill Piersol at a poetry reading. When she and Bill got married, her maid of honor was Grace Slick. Through Slick she got some of her first musical experience. She would later front the bands, Yellow Brick Road and Hair. Even though she has been largely forgotten, at the time she was known for her musical style which ventured into rock, soul and Indian music. She has been referred to by ''Paste'' as the Forgotten Rock Goddess of the Bay Area. Grace Slick (born Grace Barnett Wing; October 30, 1939) is an American painter and retired musician whose musical career spanned four decades. She was a prominent figure in San Francisco's psychedelic music scene during the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. Initially performing with The Great Society (band), the Great Society, Slick achieved fame as the lead singer and frontwoman of Jefferson Airplane and the subsequent spinoff bands Jefferson Starship and Starship (band), Starship. Dabney Roger "Darby" Slick (born February 26, 1944) is an American guitarist and songwriter, best known as a former member of the Great Society and the writer of the Jefferson Airplane song " Somebody to Love". Early life Slick was born in Dallas, Texas, and raised in Hawaii before his family settled in Palo Alto, California. The Great Society (also known as The Great!! Society!!) was a 1960s San Francisco rock band that existed from 1965 to 1966, and was closely associated with the burgeoning Bay Area acid rock scene. Best known as the original group of model-turned-singer Grace Slick, the initial lineup of the band also featured her then-husband Jerry Slick on drums, his brother Darby Slick on guitar, David Miner on vocals and guitar, Bard DuPont on bass, and Peter van Gelder on flute, bass, and saxophone. Cadet Records was an American record label that began as Argo Records in 1955 as the jazz subsidiary of Chess Records. Argo changed its name in 1965 to Cadet to avoid confusion with the similarly named label in the UK. Cadet stopped releasing records around 1974, when its artists were moved to Chess. There was also Cadet Concept Records, for rock and more adventurous music, such as the Rotary Connection, and the experimental psychedelic ''Electric Mud'' album by Muddy Waters. The label had a Top 20 hit in 1968 with the single "Pictures of Matchstick Men" by the British band Status Quo through a licensing arrangement with Pye Records in London.
