Jean Heiberg
Jean Hjalmar Dahl Heiberg (19 December 1884 – 27 May 1976) was a Norwegian painter, sculptor, designer and art professor. Personal life Heiberg was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was the son of Hjalmar Heiberg (1837–97) and Jeanette Sofie Augusta Dahl (1848–84). Both his father and grandfather were professors of medicine. His mother died of puerperal fever one week after his birth. Heiberg's first wife (from 1913 to 1920) was the sculptor Sigri Welhaven. In 1922 he married the painter Agnes Mannheimer, who died in 1934. In 1954 he married Anna Cleve (1916–1996). Career Heiberg finished his secondary education at Hamar in 1903. He studied at the Royal Drawing School (''Den Kongelige Tegneskole'') in Kristiania from 1903 to 1904, and in Munich from 1904 to 1905. He studied at the Académie Colarossi in Paris in 1905. Axel Revold
Axel Revold (24 December 1887 – 11 April 1962) was a Norwegian painter, illustrator, and art professor at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts for twenty years. He was highly decorated for his merits. Personal life Revold was born on 24 December 1887 in Ålesund as the son of merchant Julius Revold and Johanne Hjelpsten. He was married to Ingrid Müller from 1915 to 1928. From 1929 he was married to painter Irmelin Nansen, the daughter of Fridtjof Nansen and Eva Nansen. He was the father of artist Dagny Hald, and father-in-law of Finn Hald. He died in Bærum in 1962. Career Revold initiated engineering studies in Kristiania in 1906, and also followed evening courses at Den kgl. Tegneskole in Kristiania. In 1908 he discontinued his engineering education and moved to Paris as a student of Henri Matisse for two years. He was also inspired by Paul Cézanne and Kees van Dongen. Illegal Academy
The Illegal Academy () was an underground Norwegian teaching institution for artists. The Illegal Academy was established in Oslo in 1941. It was created as a response to Nazified Norwegian arts education after the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry was closed and the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts was taken over by Søren Onsager. Instructors at the academy included Axel Revold, Jean Heiberg, Henrik Sørensen, Per Palle Storm, Stinius Fredriksen, and Per Krohg, and its students included Edmund Ree, Harald Peterssen, Ulf Dreyer, Victor Sparre, Olav Johan Andreassen, Gladys Raknerud, Arnold Haukeland, and Liv Nergaard. Oslo ( or ; ) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The Norwegian National Academy of Arts () was a former Norwegian tertiary institution in Oslo, offering studies in the area of fine art. Along with four other academies, it merged to form the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (, KHiO) in 1996. Although now a faculty of KHiO, the Norwegian National Academy of the Arts is still referred to simply as ''Kunstakademiet'' () by both staff and students. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with up to 3.5 million unique visitors per month. Paper editions (1978–2007) The ''SNL'' was created in 1978, when the two publishing houses Aschehoug and Gyldendal merged their encyclopedias and created the company Kunnskapsforlaget.
