Jay R. Vargas
Jay R. Vargas (born July 29, 1938) is a retired United States Marine Corps colonel who served in the Vietnam War. He received the Medal of Honor for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty" in 1968. Vargas is one of four brothers who has served in combat in the United States Armed Forces in time of war – World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Education Vargas attended high school in Winslow, Arizona, where he was born. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1962 with a B.S. Degree in education and completed a Master of Arts degree with "Honors" at U.S International University in San Diego, California. Winslow, Arizona
Winslow is a city in Navajo County, Arizona, United States. According to the 2010 United States Census, 2020 census, the population of the city is 9,005. It is approximately southeast of Flagstaff, Arizona, Flagstaff, west of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and southeast of Las Vegas. History Winslow was named for either Edward F. Winslow, president of St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, St. Louis–San Francisco Railway, which owned half of the old Atlantic and Pacific Railroad, or Tom Winslow, a prospector who lived in the area. The Fred Harvey Company, Harvey House, designed by Mary Colter, opened in 1930; It closed in 1957, and—early in the 1960s—the Santa Fe Railway gutted much of it, transforming it into its offices. Basic School
The Basic School (TBS) is where all newly commissioned and appointed (for warrant officers) United States Marine Corps officers are taught the basics of being an "Officer of Marines." The Basic School is located in Stafford County, Virginia to the south-west of the Marine Corps Base Quantico complex. 7th Marine Regiment
The 7th Marine Regiment is an infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California. Nicknamed the "Magnificent Seventh", the regiment falls under the command of the 1st Marine Division and the I Marine Expeditionary Force. 3rd Marine Division (United States)
The 3rd Marine Division is a division (military), division of the United States Marine Corps based at Camp Courtney, Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler in Okinawa Prefecture, Okinawa, Japan. It is one of three active duty infantry divisions in the Marine Corps and together with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (1stMAW) and the 3rd Marine Logistics Group (3rd MLG) forms the III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF). In the United States, the National War College (NWC) is a school within the National Defense University. It is housed in Roosevelt Hall on Fort Lesley J.
