Jason C. Buckel
Jason Cord Buckel (born November 3, 1971) is an American politician, and the minority leader in the Maryland House of Delegates. He has represented District 1B since 2015. He is a member of the Republican Party. Early life and career Buckel was born in Allegany County, Maryland on November 3, 1971. He graduated from Bishop Walsh School in Cumberland, Maryland and attended George Mason University, where he earned a B.A. degree in political science with honors, and the University of Maryland School of Law, where he earned a J.D. degree with honors. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1996. After graduating, he started his own law firm and became a member of the Maryland State Bar Association. Buckel became involved with politics in 2006, when he became a member of the Maryland Republican Party. The Maryland House of Delegates is the lower house of the legislature of the State of Maryland. It consists of 141 delegates elected from 47 districts. The House of Delegates Chamber is in the Maryland State House on State Circle in Annapolis, the state capital. The State House also houses the Maryland State Senate Chamber and the offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Maryland. Alexander Xavier Mooney (born June 7, 1971) is an American politician serving since 2015 as the U.S. representative from . A member of the Republican Party, he represented the 3rd district in the Maryland State Senate from 1999 to 2011 and is a former chair of the Maryland Republican Party. He is the first Hispanic person elected to Congress from West Virginia. In November 2022, Mooney filed to run for U.S. Senate in 2024, for the West Virginia seat occupied by Democrat Joe Manchin. The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, Inc. (also known as The Maryland Legislative Black Caucus) is an American political organization composed of African Americans elected to the Maryland General Assembly. Incorporated in 1970, the Caucus membership has grown from 17 to 58 and is one of the largest state legislative black caucuses in the country. The ''Baltimore Banner'' is a news website in Baltimore founded by the Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism, which is a nonprofit set up by Stewart W. Bainum Jr. It launched June 14, 2022. The ''Baltimore Banner'' was also a 1965 newspaper, set up as a " strike paper" during a strike against Baltimore newspapers. During a 1984 strike, strikers considered resurrecting it. The ''Cumberland Times-News'' is a five-day morning daily newspaper serving Cumberland, Maryland, United States, and the surrounding areas of Allegany and Garrett counties in Maryland, and Mineral County in West Virginia. The paper, which has existed under various titles, dates back to the early 19th century. In addition to its Cumberland headquarters, the newspaper maintained satellite bureaus in Frostburg and McHenry, Maryland, and in Keyser, West Virginia. The last of these, the Keyser bureau, closed in March 2009 in order to cut costs for the newspaper.
