Jarvis Astaire
Jarvis Joseph Astaire, OBE (6 October 1923 – 21 August 2021) was a British sports executive, boxing promoter, and film producer. Life and career Astaire was born Joseph Golombovitch in Stepney, East London on 6 October 1923. He was the leading boxing promoter in the United Kingdom from the 1950s to the 1980s. He co-promoted with Harry Levine and matchmaker Mickey Duff. Astaire produced ''Agatha (film), Agatha''. He was Consultant to the Sport Division of First Artist Corp. plc from February 2009 on. For much of the early 1970s Astaire owned a controlling stake in Joint Promotions, the former cartel that was the UK's largest professional wrestling organisation from the early 1950s to the late 1980s and which held a monopoly on television coverage of wrestling on ITV (TV network), ITV for most of the that period. Mickey Duff
Mickey Duff (7 June 1929 – 22 March 2014), was a Polish-born British boxer, matchmaker, manager and promoter. Early life Duff was born Monek Prager to a Jewish family in Tarnów, Poland on 7 June 1929. His father, a rabbi, helped the family flee the Nazis and emigrate to England in the late 1930s. Career in boxing Four-year career as boxer Duff became a professional boxer aged fifteen, and boxed for four years. According to Mickey, he chose the name Duff from the character, "Jackie-Boy Duffy" from the movie ''Cash and Carry'', though the character actually came from the 1941 boxing movie, ''Ringside Maisie''. The ring name hid his boxing career from his disapproving father, with whom he would have a strained relationship for life, though for other reasons. The 1992 SummerSlam was the fifth annual SummerSlam professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). It took place on Saturday, August 29, 1992, at Wembley Stadium in London, England and aired on tape delay on Monday, August 31, 1992. It was the first major WWF pay-per-view to take place outside North America. The pay-per-view included two main event matches. Simon Jack Astaire (born 3 June 1961) is a British media advisor, novelist, screenwriter, film producer. Early life Astaire was born at the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital, London, is the son of stockbroker Edgar Astaire and his former wife, interior designer Lesley, who was subsequently the first wife of artist Bill Jacklin. He was educated at Wellesley House School in Kent, and at Harrow School. His uncle was the boxing promoter Jarvis Astaire.
