Alice Jamieson
Alice Jamieson (July 14, 1860 – July 4, 1949) was an American and Canadian feminist and magistrate. Career Jamieson arrived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1903 when her husband, Reuben Rupert Jamieson, became the area general superintendent for the Canadian Pacific Railway. They prospered in Calgary and after his retirement, he became the 19th mayor of Calgary. After the death of her husband, Alice continued to be active in the community. She was involved in organizations such as the Calgary Council of Women and the YWCA of Calgary. In 1914, Jamieson was appointed the first female judge in the British Empire of a juvenile court. In 1916, she became the second female magistrate of the Empire, just months after Emily Murphy was appointed in Edmonton, Alberta. Jamieson's right to serve as magistrate came into question in 1917 in the Lizzie Cyr Case. Cyr's lawyer argued that as a woman, Alice was legally "incompetent and incapable" of holding the office. Leah Jamieson
Leah H. Jamieson (born August 27, 1949, in Trenton, NJ, USA) is an American engineering educator, currently the Ransburg Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. Jamieson was a founder of the Engineering Projects in Community Service program (EPICS), a multi-university engineering design program that operates in a service-learning context. She is a recipient of the Gordon Prize. From 2006-2017, she served as the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering at Purdue. Jamieson was elected a member of the US National Academy of Engineering in 2005 for innovations in integrating engineering education and community service. Kyle Jamieson (born 30 December 1994) is a New Zealand cricketer. He made his international debut for the New Zealand cricket team in February 2020 against India. John Jamieson (3 March 1759 – 12 July 1838) was a Scottish minister of religion, lexicographer, philologist and antiquary. His most important work is the ''Dictionary of the Scottish Language''. Life He was born in Glasgow in March 1759 the son of Rev John Jamieson, minister of the Associate Congregation on Duke Street. He was educated at Glasgow Grammar School. He was educated at the University of Glasgow 1768 to 1771, and subsequently attended classes at the University of Edinburgh, 1775–6. After six years' theological study, Jamieson was licensed to preach in 1781 and became pastor of an Anti-burgher congregation in Forfar, Angus. James A. Jamieson (April 21, 1943 – December 5, 2018) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1970s. Biography Jamieson was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan and raised in Moline, Illinois. He started playing golf at age 7 at Oakwood Country Club in Moline. He attended Oklahoma State University, where he was an All-American and a member of the 1963 NCAA Championship golf team. Jamieson served in Vietnam before turning pro in 1968 and joining the PGA Tour in 1970. Jamieson played in about 180 PGA Tour events from 1970 to 1978. Jane Jamieson (born 23 June 1975) is a track and field athlete from Australia. Jamieson has competed in the heptathlon in the Olympic Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games, finishing with Top-10 results at each level, including a gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Since the 2000 Olympic Games, Jamieson has been hampered by a string of knee, hamstring and calf injuries and missed the 2004 Olympic Games due to injury. Jamieson returned from injury to qualify for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, but failed to complete the competition after suffering a calf strain to her left leg combining with the hamstring injury she suffered six weeks before the start of the Melbourne Games.
