James Zar
James Zar (1941 – 10 December 2015), also known as The Still Life Magician, was an American artist notable for his oil-based, fantasy art. Although his works vary, his primary subject matter was still life. He was the stepfather of painter and digital animator Chet Zar. Born in San Pedro, California, Zar originally studied as an actor. San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) was a Private college, private art school, college of contemporary art in San Francisco, California. Founded in 1871, SFAI was one of the oldest art schools in the United States and the oldest west of the Mississippi River. Approximately 220 undergraduates and 112 graduate students were enrolled in 2021. Chet Zar (born November 12, 1967, in San Pedro, California) is an American artist notable for his dark visual art, make-up effects, and digital animation. He is most widely known for his work with Tool's music and live videos. He is the stepson of American fantasy artist James Zar. Life Zar was born in San Pedro, California. His interest in the "darker" aspects of art began as a young child, described as a "natural fascination with all things strange fostered within himself a deep connection to horror movies and dark imagery." He spent his entire childhood sculpting, drawing and painting. In high school, Zar began his work in the makeup effects industry, gaining full-time employment a year after graduating.
