James E. MacDonald
James Emmanuel MacDonald (January 5, 1842 – October 1, 1903) was a merchant and political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented 3rd Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1873 to 1882 and from 1890 to 1904 as a Conservative member. He was born in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island, the son of Angus MacDonald, and was educated there. In 1864, he moved to Cardigan, where he entered into business with Hugh McDonald. Around 1876, he established his own ship building business. He married Georgina Stevens in 1877. MacDonald was first elected to the provincial assembly in 1873 after Augustine Colin Macdonald was elected to the House of Commons. He retired from politics in 1882 but was elected again in 1890 after the death of Hugh Lord McDonald. MacDonald served in the province's Executive Council as Commissioner of Public Works from 1890 to 1891, when he resigned from the council. Prince Edward Island (PEI; ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is the smallest province in terms of land area and population, but the most densely populated. Georgetown is a community located within the municipality of Three Rivers in Kings County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is the Capital of Kings County. Cardigan (2016 pop.: 269) was a municipality that held community status in Prince Edward Island, Canada. It was a fishing community in eastern Kings County. The community was named by Welsh farmers, later it was thought to be named after James Brudenell, 5th Earl of Cardigan, later Duke of Montague. Situated on the Cardigan River and originally named Cardigan Bridge, the community started and grew as a result of the shipbuilding industry and lumber trade. Augustine Colin Macdonald
Augustine Colin Macdonald (June 30, 1837 – July 16, 1919) was a Canadian merchant and political figure. He represented King's County and later King's in the House of Commons of Canada from 1873 to 1874, from 1878 to 1882, from 1883 to 1887 and from 1891 to 1900 as a Liberal-Conservative member. Macdonald served as the tenth Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island from 1915 to 1919. He was born in Panmure Island, the son of Hugh Macdonald, a Scottish immigrant, and was educated in Georgetown and Charlottetown. Macdonald married Mary Elizabeth, the daughter of John Small MacDonald, in 1865. He served as a captain in the militia.
