James Adams (1737 – 7 December 1802) was an English Jesuit and philologist. Life Adams joined the England, English Society of Jesus, Jesuits in exile at their novitiate of Watten, Nord, Watten (France), on 7 September 1756. Afterwards Adams taught belles-lettres at the English College of St. Omer. Having exercised his functions as a missionary for many years, he retired to Dublin, August, 1802, and died there in the following month of December. James Adams (Mormon)
James Adams (January 24, 1783 – August 11, 1843) was a nineteenth-century Illinois lawyer and close friend of Joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Biography James Adams, the son of Parmenio Adams and Cleo Nering, was born on January 24, 1783, at Simsbury, Connecticut. He married Harriet Denton (1787–1844) in 1809 at Hartford, Connecticut, and later moved to Oswego, New York. He served in the United States Army during the War of 1812. In 1821 he settled in Springfield, Illinois where he became a pioneer attorney of Sangamon County. He was elected justice of the peace in 1823. He served in the Winnebago War in 1827, as well as the Black Hawk War in 1831-1832. Because of his military service he was often addressed as "General Adams." Jim Adams (soccer)
Jim Adams (born November 16, 1969) is an American soccer goalkeeper who most recently played for the Cincinnati Excite in the American Indoor Soccer League. He played two seasons in the USISL earlier in his career where he was also the 1995 Goalkeeper of the Year. Adams attended Mercer County Community College where he played soccer in 1988 and 1989. Mercer won the 1988 Junior College National Championship and Adams was a 1989 junior college All American. He then transferred to Monmouth University, playing soccer there in 1990 and 1991. He holds the school's career record for saves and goals against average. In 1992, he signed with the Denver Thunder in the National Professional Soccer League where he started two games during the 1992–1993 season. He served as the head coach at the United States Military Academy, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Virginia. He was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1975. James J. Adams (born 1868) was an American major league baseball catcher. He played professionally for the St. Louis Browns. Career Adams was born in 1868 in East St. Louis, Illinois. James Adams (17 August 1864 – 21 April 1943) was a Scottish footballer who played for Heart of Midlothian, Everton and Scotland. He started his senior career with Hearts, and won the Scottish Cup with the club in 1891 (their first major trophy and the first time the competition had been won by a team from the Scottish capital). He played in England for Everton for two seasons from 1894 to 1896, before playing one more season for Hearts in 1896–97 and finishing with a short spell at St Bernard's. Adams won three caps for Scotland, spread across four years. In an era when representative matches between cities and regions were frequent, he was selected for Edinburgh / East of Scotland on 17 occasions. James Henry Kenneth Adams (born 23 September 1980) is an English former professional cricketer. He played as a left-handed batsman and left-arm medium-pace bowler. He first starred for the England Under-19s having previously represented his country at the Under-15 and Under-19 World Cups. Having been named as Hampshire's Young Player of the Year, he captained Loughborough UCCE in 2003 and made his maiden first-class century against Somerset in 2003. He was a member of Hampshire's 2005 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy winning squad. In 2008, Adams played three Minor Counties fixtures for Dorset. He was born at Saffron Walden, Essex.
