Jacob Stumm
Jacob Stumm (26 August 1853 – 23 January 1921) was an Australian politician. He was a Ministerialist member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for the seat of Gympie from 1896 to 1899 and a Commonwealth Liberal Party member of the Australian House of Representatives for Lilley from 1913 to 1917. Early life and career Stumm was born in the Free City of Frankfurt, but was brought to his Australia by his parents at the age of 2 and raised in Toowoomba, Queensland, where he was educated at public schools. He moved to Gympie at the age of 15 and lived there for the rest of his life, with the exception of a few years at Maryborough. He worked as a ''Hansard'' reporter and worked as a journalist for ''The Gympie Times'' before purchasing the newspaper in partnership with A. G. Ramsey in 1880. The Division of Lilley is an Australian Electoral Divisions, Australian Electoral Division in Queensland. The current MP is Anika Wells of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). History The division was first proclaimed in 1913. The division is named after Charles Lilley, Sir Charles Lilley, a former premier of Queensland and a former chief justice in the Supreme Court of Queensland. William Glasgow (general)
Major general (Australia), Major General Sir Thomas William Glasgow (6 June 1876 – 4 July 1955) was a senior Australian Army officer and politician. Glasgow rose to prominence during the First World War as a brigade and later divisional commander on the Western Front (World War I), Western Front. Post-war, he was elected to the Australian Senate, representing Queensland as a Nationalist Party of Australia, Nationalist Party member from 1919 to 1931, before appointment as List of Australian High Commissioners to Canada, Australian High Commissioner to Canada. In 1945, Glasgow returned to Australia and resumed his private business interests. He died in Brisbane in 1955, at the age of 79. Gympie Cemetery
Gympie Cemetery is the cemetery for Gympie, Queensland, Australia. The cemetery is located on Corella Road and is managed by the Gympie Cemetery Trust. History It was first unofficially located on the corner of Alfred and King Street, currently the site of the ambulance station next to the Gympie Hospital. Following approximately 50 burials at this site, the Tozer Park Road Cemetery was opened on 1 December 1869. The first burial register was started at that time. The flood-prone town of Gympie was subjected to diseases such as diphtheria, and the Tozer Park Cemetery bore the blame. It was found that the ground was too low and hard digging, resulting in shallow burials that caused distressing odours. Tozer Park Cemetery was closed in 1886. The cemetery was relocated to its current location on Corella Road at Two Mile, and an area of 60 acres was granted.
